I have recently studied biology and learned about evolution. Now I know that scientists say that they can show why their is evolution but besides from the scientific reasons, why does that work. Why do legs arise from a fish and turn into an amphibean and walk on land. It does not make any sense, besides for the fact that God made them. I just dont believe that evolution is true. I believe if anything God made these connections to lead those astray and only the ones who believe in him truly will be strong and not believe in evolution.

There is nothing saying you cannot believe in evolution if you are Catholic. You just need to acknowledge God as the start. I do not take the Book of Genesis literal but I do take the lessons and meaning serious.

I don’t agree with you, but there a number of people on this forum who do. I’ve also heard that prominent Catholic contraception lecturer Janet E. Smith has strong doubts about evolution.

Just as it’s not required for Catholics to believe the creationist account, neither is it required for Catholics to believe the evolutionist account. The fact that I very strongly fall in with the evolutionists makes no odds. Keep looking for the truth, Hello1234. The truth is the thing the Church loves above all, for God is Truth, and all truth points to God.

My understanding is that one does not compromise your Catholic faith if you believe in evolution, as others have stated.

That being said, it is still called, in general, the *theory *of evolution.

I personally accept evolution as feasible, but I also know most scientist will tell you their profession holds a lot less certainty than most people think.

In science, most stuff is accepted as theoretical unless you basically witness it with your own two eyes, your experiments get the same result, and there are essentially no exceptions. Since evolution is something that would happen over such a long period of time and fossils and artifacts are the only proof, it isn’t, and probably never will be an absolute.

God doesn’t set out to deceive people. How can He, since He is Truth Himself?
You are free to believe in evolution, as long as you believe that God is behind it.
As far as the expression “theory of evolution” goes, “theory” in this context has a technical meaning, not used in general conversation.
What follows is the Wikipedia entry on “scientific theory”
In the sciences generally, a scientific theory (the same as an empirical theory) is constructed from elementary theorems that consist in empirical data about observable phenomena. A scientific theory is used as a plausible general principle or body of principles offered to explain a phenomenon.[1]
A scientific theory is a deductive theory, in that, its content is based on some formal system of logic and that some of its elementary theorems are taken as axioms. In a deductive theory, any sentence which is a logical consequence of one or more of the axioms is also a sentence of that theory.[2]
A major concern in construction of scientific theories is the problem of demarcation, i.e., distinguishing those ideas that are properly studied by the sciences and those that are not.
Theories whose subject matter consists not in empirical data, but rather in ideas are in the realm of philosophical theories as contrasted with scientific theories. At least some of the elementary theorems of a philosophical theory are statements whose truth cannot necessarily be scientifically tested through empirical observation.
Theories are intended to be an accurate, predictive description of the natural world. However, it is sometimes not clear whether the conclusions derived from the theory inform us about the nature of the world, or the nature of the

But God does often not neccasarily tell us lies but he tempts us. In evolution is a strong temptation to believe in.

As I have mentioned in another thread, evolution migh be part of God’s plan. Who knows?
I accept Creation as put forth in the bible as an analogy, and also accept evolution as a possibility. I will know the truth when I meet my creator.

Hi Hello! 😃 Your instincts are very good, but you need to choose your words a little more carefully. God doesn’t “tempt” us, that’s the devil’s job! God “tests” us.

God has set before us:

life and death
the Tree of Life and the Tree of (Death)
the blessing and the curse
Creation and Evolution
the truth and the lie
to believe or not to believe
to obey or not to obey

So choose life! Choose to believe. Choose to obey.

God: “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them”

Serpent: “God said He created this whole universe in just six days? Surely it took longer than that!”

I just dont believe that evolution is true. I believe if anything God made these connections to lead those astray and only the ones who believe in him truly will be strong and not believe in evolution.
You are saying God lies in order to lead the weak in Faith astray? Is that correct? The God who we believe cannot deceive or be deceived.

It is not God who tempts us, but the devil, who God allows to tempt us. You all need to go back and study your basic catechism.

Well then why does God always in the bible say “I hardened his heart” or something to that effect?

I personally do not believe in Evolution. The problem is that Scientists have this big assumption which they have not even acknowledged is an assumption. That is that everything that exists can be explained with scientifically and materially. This is an assumption.

Secondly the actual MEAT of evolution that is actual evolution and not just biological change is missing. There is no evidence of species evolving upwards and getting better. All of the examples used to “prove” evolution are examples of “devolution” or loss of genetic information.

Thirdly the idea that life arose from inanimate substance has zero supporting evidence along with being pretty much mathematically impossible.

Fourthly there are some jumps in biology that are also similarly impossible BUT NECESSARY, ie the jump from single cell to multi cell AND OTHERS.

I went to university believing in evolution. But i couldn’t give a rats bum about the above mentioned assumption and because there is lots of good scientific arguments against evolution I have joined the ranks of dissent.

God does not tempt us. Period.

James 1:13

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

Well then why does God always in the bible say “I hardened his heart” or something to that effect?
It means that God withdraws His grace, but only when we first reject His grace:

“But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.” (Exodus 8:15)

“But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.” (Exodus 9:12)
