Does anyone else cover up any religious items in your house during Lent?

I covered up all my icons in purple cloth this year. It helps me stay in the mood of the Lenten season. Does anyone else do this?

I was thinking of doing it right now. 🙂 thanks for reminding me. It is a personal decision to embrace the season of lent.

I don’t do this myself, but it seems like a good devotional. Although if you do, it seems like a good idea to wait until Passiontide.

I have over 80 crucifixes (I collect them). I don’t think I could manage it!

I think its a lovely practice. This year we’re not doing it only because we’ll be out of town all Holy Week & Easter.

With memory going back to the 40’s I never have, nor have I known anyone that did. Which is not to deny that it is a worthy idea; just that I have no experience with it.

I used to just remove them in years past, but then it was too bare. My uncle got me purple cloth and I cut it up and now it’s all on my icons. The only things that I remove now are my statues, crosses and crucifixes. I don’t have cloth for those.

I think I might start covering them up on Ash Wednesday next year and beyond instead of waiting until around Palm Sunday.
