Really, have they been visited by Mary?
Yes, they have. These approved apparitions are few. They are called private revelation because the message has been given to individuals so its private.

The private revelation of the apparition such as the one in Fatima like I said pointed that Mary want people to go back to God.

Private Revelation, however is not part of the deposit of faith, or divine revelation. Individual Catholics are not required to believe in them.

Good Fella who also responded to your post, made Biblical proof text to refute your claims.

Mary is not a middleman, She is, however, the Mother extraordinaire. We don’t need to relate to her, but if we are to imitate Jesus, we would be wise to consider doing so. He did. And He does.

Mary for her part said, “Do whatever He tells you.” He, Jesus, certainly obeyed His Father who gave a commandment: “Honor your father and mother.” Could anyone ever give her more honor than Jesus did. Could we go wrong in at least trying to imitate Him?

Your husband can go directly to Jesus in the Roman Catholic Church. Mary simply made it possible for us to have our Jesus. She followed him all the way to the Cross and nursed the new born Church in it’s infancy, I’m sure she will cheer you on as you follow her Son.

Peace and blessings on your efforts to please and follow Our Lord.

Joann

Thank you for this. Would you happen to know the difference between doctrine and dogma?
You’re welcome. :tiphat: Sorry for replying so late. You can check out a thread entitled ‘Dogma vs Doctrine’ in our Forum for the information you seek.

I have a couple questions with regard to Maryology. According to the Vatican, there are about 1.1 billion Catholics in the world. Presumably, hundreds of millions of those Catholics pray to Mary. Of course we don’t know how many are praying to Mary, but it has to be millions at the least.

When people pray to Jesus Christ, it is not difficult for me to grasp his ability to handle the number of prayers he receives. He is God, omniscient and omnipresent. He is everywhere at once and knows everything, infinitely capable of handling however many prayers the world sends to him.

Mary does not have the resources of the Lord God, though. She is not omnipresent, so how does she know that people are praying to her? And more importantly, she has a limited human mind, so how could she cope with grasping the hundreds of millions of prayers she receives a day and taking care of responding to them all?

This is just underestimating God.

In 1800, if you’d said one man could speak simultaneously to a thousand million people all across the world, or that you could write messages that could be read a moment later by thousands of people in locations across the planet in milliseconds, or that you could talk to a man on the moon, they would have said these things were impossible. Humans are not omniscient and omnipresent.

Yet these thing have been accomplished by mere humans. Can God do less than human technology. If God wishes, He can grant anyone in heaven the ability to hear the prayers of Christians. He is not limited by your understanding of what humans can do. The Communion of Saints means that all Christians in heaven, outside of time, and on earth are one body, who share each others joys and sufferings.

Right, that’s why I said Mary’s lack of omnipresence is not such a big difficulty to me. I was curious what your answer would be, but what you’ve said there seems to me to make sense.

The bigger difficulty I had was with Mary’s ability to respond to all of the prayers. Because you know, she’d be getting hundreds of millions a day! Many of those prayers would be completely different from one another, rather than one single formula prayer that she could respond to all in one. So she’d have to understand all of the individual situations, in other words listen carefully to every prayer request, before she could make a decision on it. But even if she spent every second of every day hearing and answering prayers, there wouldn’t be anywhere near enough time for her to hear all of them.

Or is the answer to this related to her being outside of time? If she was outside of time, then maybe she’d have all the “time” in the world to respond to it.

Or is the answer that her brain is radically changed now that she has gone to heaven, so that she can multiprocess thousands or millions of different experiences and encounters all simultaneously?

I am not seeking to attack Catholicism- merely to understand it.

You bring up some major issues on Marrology that cannot be asnwered with facts but must be based on speculations.

There may be many thousands praying at one moment for peace in the world end to war. Our united prayers through the intercesssion of Mary, calling her Blessed name to Jesus, i don’t know how God our Father could not hear, he would have to be very hard of hearing.😛

You are a very gentle poster if I might add.

Okay. I guess I can accept that. I’m just born with that terrible human curiosity 😉 ;).

Thanks. I get the same impression from your posts.

My husband and I are considering converting to Catholicism, but he is having a hard time with “Maryology”. He tells me that he wants to worship Jesus and not go to a “middleman”… Any suggestions???
This set of tapes will be a huge help to you.
God Bless You Both :gopray2:

Aren’t you speculating when you claim it is impossible for Mary to hear a million prayers at once? How do you know that she can’t? Most likely she can, because she exists in eternity beyond the constraints of real time and space. Haven’t you heard of multitracking in the music recording industry? Recording 24 different songs at once on a single device? What occurs exists beside time and is not in real time. Omnipresence is irrelevant. You are no physicist to begin with, so it’s intellectually dishonest of you to say with certainty what Mary can’t do beside real time relative to us.

He didn’t say that Mary couldn’t hear all of these things at once. He just answered my question as to how this was accomplished by saying that this enters the realm of speculation.

Atheist also claim Christians belief in God and heaven are also speculation.
i don’t how much you have studied the evidence for the existence of God but its quite good and goes beyond speculation. In terms of heaven, we believe in it because Jesus taught it. Now if we are right about Jesus being God in the flesh, then what He teaches about things that cannot be proven can be believed on His authority alone.

Since the catholic church is making the claim that Mary can hear all these prayers at once then its up to them to show this is the case. The scriptures never attribute such powers to a created being. Also how do you know with any certainty that eternity is " beyond the constraints of real time and space"?

It is you who is making these claims. Now i know the scriptures never make such claims about like this. Where is your proof that Mary can do this and that eternity is a you say?

sometimes the rift between Gentiles and Jews just really amazes… those of us who convert from Judaism to Catholicism have no problem with understanding the “Mary thing.” Jesus was the ultimate “good Jewish boy” and as such, he adored his mother and expected everyone else to, as well. For goodness sake, she told him (not asked him) to turn water into wine at a wedding, which wasn’t a life or death kind of miracle either, if you get my drift… and he threw off his own timetable and agenda to do so… 'cause he was good boy.

He was in absolute agony on the cross, but he took the limited breath he had to pass Mary onto the rest of us. No surprise.

Respecting a Mom when a son turns out good is a very Jewish kind of thing. Jesus was/is Jewish, Mary is/was Jewish, and Joseph the Foster Dad was/is Jewish. Jesus is a totally awesome Dude, so I pay proper respect to his parents. My Mom LOVED all my Jewish dates (even though she, herself, married a Catholic). My Jewish dates all fawned over my mother. They’re brought up that way.

Can’t even imagine a good Jewish boy who had all the power in the universe denying his saintly mother any kind of power or benefit in the great hereafter. Most can’t deny their mother anything in the here and now (I’m only talking GOOD Jewish boys, mind you… but even mediocre ones have been known to stretch the limit on this kind of thing).

I’ve said it before on this board, but it bears saying one more time – the closest thing to a Jew is a Catholic. If you get that and understand the Jewish cultural thing (which was already ancient before Jesus), you’ll find a lot of the Catholic stuff cleared up.

I have studied a lot about God and I know he exist. I also believed that he established One Church and built it upon Peter, and then the Apostles. When they pass away, their authority was handed down to the bishops and popes. What they were taught was handed down to them.

Some of the doctrine develop over time such as the Trinity. I also know God exist because of the Jewish people. For these people were God chosen people. God establish a covenant through Abraham, prior to Abraham, Noah, and before Noah, he establish a covenant with Adam and Eve.

I believe that the Holy Spirit guides the Church in all truths, to include Marian doctrines. The source of these doctrine come from Christ himself. When I read over the documents concerning Mary, they always involve God’s intervention.

I believe that Mary is the Ever-Virgin because through the Guidance of the Holy Spirit, it was affirmed by the Church as well as others doctrines.

I don’t think Church would be deceived by making up new dogmas. If the CC did, then I might as well question the authority of the Bible, because the Bible my friend is developed from oral Tradition of the Church.

Jesus Christ himself didn’t write anything. He preached orally. The Apostles also preached orally. It was not until 30-40 yrs after the ascension, we started seeing the oral teachings of the Jesus being written down. John also noted in his writings, there were other things Jesus did not written. I believe those to be preserved in the Catholic Church.

In regards to your comment “there were other things Jesus did not written. I believe those to be preserved in the Catholic Church”
what exactly is this? Can you give me a couple of examples?

That’s an interesting point.

But then, there also is the scripture where a woman says to Jesus, “blessed is the mother who bore you!” and he replies, “blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
