Does Anyone Else Struggle With Reading Genesis?

For me, personally, this is a story I’ve heard since, well… infancy, it seems. I get distracted by the superficialities of the text when I read or hear it now–just because it’s been repeated to me so many times. I KNOW what amazing parallels are in those first couple chapters regarding Christ and his mission, but I struggle to actually read it in light of this.

To me, it is almost like the most unevolved, most redundant section of Scripture and the more I read it trying to convince myself otherwise, the more I’m adding to my struggles. Thoughts?
 
Listen to the following audio files by Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins or read “Our Father’s Plan” by Scott Hahn, and you will come to appreciate all of the historical books of the Old Testament much greater!!!

Mitch Pacwa’s, The seeds of Abraham is also a good audio series on Genesis.

May I suggest two works I think are esential for understanding Genesis espcially the first three chapters. The first is, "In the Beginning " by Pope Benedict XVI. The second is the series of addresses given by Pope JohnPaul II in 1979 on his “Theology of the Body”

It’s wierd, the link in your “quote” still worked for me. But in any event, the link you posted is exactly what I was talking about.

Jeff and Scott do a great job of tying the Old Testament together to form the the story of God’s Love for us!
 
The very best pastoral treatment of Genesis I’ve ever read is the one by Bruggerman, “Genesis”. Its part of the “Interpretation” series and is simply awesome in its beauty. I’m sure you can get a used copy on Amazon or Ebay with no trouble.

I also like "A path through Genesis"Vawter(highly readable and easy to understand) and for the Jewish prospective “Understanding Genesis” by Nahum Sarna who also does a great book on exodus:p
 
I loooove Genesis and is for some reason it is the most requested subject for a Bible Study in my parish.I love teaching it- the people in Genesis are so flawed and so real(jacob-the usurper comes to mind)that it gives a huge amount of hope to people that God can use you even in your sinfulness.It’s one terrific and fun book to teach:)
