For some reason, my parish uses a weird form of the Agnus Dei that I think is illicit, so I don’t sing it. Instead, I quietly say the Latin Agnus Dei to myself. Here is the text of the controversial Agnus Dei song:
*"Jesus, Lamb of God, bearer of our sins, Jesus, Savior:
Hear our prayer, hear our prayer,
through this Bread and Wine we share,
may we be your sign of peace everywhere.
Jesus, Lamb of God, bearer of our pain, Jesus, healer:
Hear our prayer, hear our prayer,
through this Bread and Wine we share,
may we be your sign of peace everywhere.
Jesus, Lamb of God, bearer of our sins, Jesus, Savior:
Hear our prayer, hear our prayer,
through this Bread and Wine we share,
may we be your sign of peace everywhere."*
Anyone with me on this? I mean it doesn’t even mention “have mercy on us” or “grant us peace”. Is this really OK, or should I tell my priest (who is a holy and good man, don’t get me wrong). I’m just concerened that my whole parish might have been duped into doing something illicit.
By the way, I think this version was written by Bernadette Farrell.
