A minor point on the bolded above – note that it does not say that ONLY scripture is given by inspiration of God, is profitable for doctrine, etc.
Agreed. We just place all authority for Church in Scripture, whereas y’all add tradition. I accept that, and do not disparage Catholicism. I’m not a “Jack Chick” Baptist. But my study of Scripture combined with Church history leads me to believe we are right. It is a Family argument, however, since even though family members may argue, vehemently, they are still family.

Romans 10
“8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”

Well perhaps…If the modification is believing that The 66 Books of the Bible are the Authoritative Word of God
Well … no. 🙂 We agree on that (except for the number 66).

What I meant is that if you inserted different terms in where the blanks are,
_______ can be traced back to the early Fathers. _______ quantified and gave a name to the theology, but he did not invent it.
it sounds like something a Catholic might say. :cool:

Well… I had to take a trip to NY last week and in the subway between the Port Authority and Times Square there was a LARGE display of Jack Chick pamphlets and 3-4 people passing out those and other literature. So I would say fundamentalism is alive and well.

But I digress… I would respectfully suggest that while you strive to place all authority in Scripture, you really still have to also rely on your own particular traditions to interpret it. For instance, You and I read the same words of John 3 (more or less) but we have different understandings of what it means to be “born again”. Only difference is our traditions, the words are the same.
