Does anyone hate being a woman?

:rotfl: i grew up with 2 brothers and spent more time with male cousins…could connect and have fun with them (after you get over the awkwardness) compared to girls

Also jealous that their role in the babymaking process is the most fun part for them, while the woman gets to enjoy years of cramps and possible stained sheets and clothes and then 9 months of carrying the baby…and then the childbirth. And then the baby sucking on her nipples till they are raw

For someone who kind of wants kids in the future, it’s terrifying tbh
My daughter just had a baby 11 months ago … she enjoyed the pregnancy … the delivery was painful … but I never saw a more happy person in my entire life as she has been since she delivered and had her baby in her arms … every day since (and she breastfed) she has been the happiest I have ever seen her in her entire lifetime … she even gave up her job to stay home with the baby … something I didn’t think she was going to do … but she was also lucky that by the grace of God she was able to afford to do so … she’s making plans to have another baby … and her life has become one big joy.

I will pray that eventually being a woman will feel better for you … God Bless.

I’m jealous of people like that. I was a mess when my kids were babies. I hated taking care of babies 😦
Loved being a mom when they were around 6 though. Enjoyed baking and having conversations with them…their outlook on life at the time was so adorable

Womanhood is definitely difficult in general. Society doesn’t make it easier because of the sexism. Thankfully it’s not as bad as it was back then. I feel like the women in the bible were quite strong. We wouldn’t survive there!

Men have their unique struggles too, especially a catholic man. Now, a manly man in todays is someone that sleeps around, has rippling muscles and treat girls like objects. A Catholic man is/should be different, and I feel sorry for them because they are usually made fun of…

That being said, I would still choose to be a man if I had the choice. It’s not stress free, but I definitely don’t have to worry about dying while giving birth, or buying bras (why on earth are they so expensive?!)

Men have their uses I suppose but wanting to b one? NO WAY!\

I mean shaving every day … or grow a beard…

I am amazed too at the value you young ones put on physical “beauty”

To be fair, most of us women shave our legs, underarms, even arms as well as thread our eyebrows and remove our upper lip hair! Being a man and only shaving off your beard, and not being called a monkey/dirty? sign me in 😛

I’m not surprised at how many ladies focus on beauty.

Main definition of beauty is usually: A combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight

I feel as a society, we are trying to redefine it, not complaining, but changing the meaning of the word isn’t going to tackle the issue. People will just find another word to describe looks and focus on that.

In biblical times, beauty was praised. It wasn’t the be all and end all of qualities, of course. Rachel was desired, more than Leah (wink wink @ Lea), willing to work years for her. Judith and Esther, were incredibly beautiful. If they were ugly, I don’t think they would be able to do what they did. And so on…

In the world today…beauty attracts a man (doesn’t make them stay, though). This is not to say that only beautiful women will have spouses, but it’s easier for them to attract people. Homely looking women will probably have to be friends with a man for a whiilleee and compensate by being funny (okay, guys experience this too), or trying to have no flaws in their personality. They definitely feel the pressure to, because that’s the only ‘beauty’ they can have. Prettier women can relax a bit IMO. They are allowed to have more bad days.

People also tend to see pretty girls as friendly. Well, there are 2 types of beautiful women-the megan fox kind, those who are sexy/sultry, model-esque types, and the other is more of the cute kind…think of people like Selena Gomez or even Beyonce, they look aesthetically pleasing but also look friendly to some extent. So I’m talking about the latter here.

Guys also tend to have more patience with attractive girls too, or maybe that’s something I noticed. When I was in university, guys are more willing to help out a pretty girl as opposed to a…well not pretty girl. Those overweight, acne covered girls obsessed with like, cars are made fun of. Those gorgeous girls who are obsessed with cars and sports, however, are almost worshiped.

So yes, beauty does get people places. It has its disadvantages of course, but I’m pretty sure a lot of beautiful women would not want to be ugly. Maybe less beautiful, but never the opposite. Like how we are amazed at sunsets, rainbows, flowers, etc…people are amazed over them.

However, those who didn’t win the genetic lottery though…I always like to think of the story of Rachel and Leah. God saw, took pity on Leah and opened her womb…I like to think that applies to the less attractive women too. God might not make you pregnant, but I like to think that he will bless them in another aspect of life…

So many words, and energy on something so… relatively unimportant. rating folk by how they look? We live in differetnt worlds… over and out from me

I am delighted for my daughter … I was more like you … much better as my daughter was a bit older.

I pray for any woman who has issues with being a woman … may God give all women the grace to understand their inner beauty.

God Bless

That is kind of true. While I was torturing myself because of a chocolate bar, God made me the top student of my school (at that time) Sometimes I can imagine him yelling at me “why is that not enough you insufferable child” lol

And yes, I’m aware of the Lea/Leah thing :whacky:

As I grew older, I made the resolution not to aspire to mere prettiness but to a timeless elegance and it all begins with a rich spiritual life. Who cares if it does not fit the criteria of popular media. We must transcend the mere mortal and aspire to think like an immortal.

The Church already has the Sacraments that are available to us for a rich and dynamic spiritual life. I am now discovering the usefulness of fasting. It cultivates spritual discipline plus it can do a body good.

If at all possible, to do it under the guidance of a spiritual director and also clear it with your physician.

I want to try fasting but I’m not allowed to

And yes, I would rather receive other things besides beauty (eg, say salvation, financial support for my studies, the safety of my family, etc), if I’m forced to choose

It just sucks bc since i was like, 4? I was made fun of the way I look, and even know I can catch certain glimpses strangers give 🤷 not an easy thing to ignore imo

I understand Lea101. I have a cognitive skin disorder called ichthyosis vulgaris which manifests as scaly skin, flaking skin and darkened skin on my elbows and knees, making it look like I don’t shower regularly… I have generated stares and ridicule from people as long as I can remember. Add being a fat (read that as morbidly obese) chick and boy do I get the looks! So, I wear bright colors and sparkly jewelry. I have had people approach me and tell me to “tone it down” because of my size. Why should I? I love bright colors and I love sparkly jewelry. Those around me at work have just given up and accepted me.

As for fasting, I understand. I can’t fast because I am a diabetic. I crave sugar, I mean really, really crave it. So, as a penance, I don’t eat anything sugary. God will give me the grace to offer this penance to Him. Also, I abstain a lot, there are plenty of meatless options for us. God looks at our hearts as we offer our penances to Him, even if what we offer is small.

Now, off to think about something else other than the M&Ms that someone left in the break room. Augghh!!! :bigyikes:
