i personally don’t think so. Im no theologian nor scientists, but i feel that its over 5,000, more like million of yrs old

Are you guys trolling?

Because some creationists believe it’s 6000 or 5000, instead of millions.

It is making liberals laugh at religious folk.

First, you must define “years” (the current year on the jewish calendar is 5773).

Second, you must decide at what point in space you will measure your “years”, as time does not flow at the same rate at different points in space.

Third, you must prove that your measurement of your “years” at a certain point in space is accurate in relation to other rates of time in all other points in space.

Then, you can say how old the Earth is.

I believe that the earth is at least 5000 years old.

Thank you.

We’re being sarcastic, because the idea of the Earth being only a few thousand years old is completely rediculous.

I believe the human race is 6000 to 7000 years old. The question is how long did God create the earth before he created life.

how about Julian Days to date in this Julian Period, plus all previous Julian Periods or whole days thereof.

Did God use evolution? He may have. Genesis is not a science text, so it does not tell us how so much as why. But there are hints. Only three times in the creation account is “bara” used: for the creation of matter (I:I), life (I:2I) and humanity (I:27). The other times, God said, “let the waters bring forth…” or “let the earth bring forth…” that is, for most of His acts of “creation”, He made rather than created.
For example, He used the pre-existing material of “the dust of the earth to make man. Was that an ape body? Perhaps. Why not? Our 'image of God” distinctiveness, our personality, is grounded in the soul, not in the body. We are “rational animals”. God is not an animal.
Catholics have seldom had the difficulties and embarrassments many Protestants have had about creation vs. evolution. Ever since Augustine they have interpreted Genesis’ “days” non literally. (The Hebrew word there, yom, is often used non-quantitatively in Scripture.) Purposes not clocks, measure God’s time.

Like the whole Bible, Genesis is history but not scientific history. This does not mean that it is myth or fable, but that its style is often poetic and that its content is selective. The author is like a photographer who points his camera only at the subjects that are important for his purposes, from his point of view. The purpose of the Divine Author of vthe Bible, the Holy Spirit, is to tell us about God and His acts of “Salvation History”.

There is an interesting group called Biologos.
It’s made up of Scientists who are Christian. While this is not Catholic Theology, I applaud them for trying to reason science and faith instead of abandoning faith for science.

We’re in an interesting spot in history with scientific discovery and thought. We’re being challenged with how we view creation, etc… much like Copernicus and the solar system.
I think continually claiming that the earth is 6,000 years old, À la Kirk Cameron, makes all who claim to follow the bible look like idiots.

We must recognize that non-christians lump us all together. So, what some fringe group does or says in the name of Christianity is reflected upon us all (yes, including Catholics).

So, to answer your question: NO.

I am on phone so can’t cut and paste… But to the poster who said it depends on how you define years… A year is how long it takes for the earth to make a complete circle around the sun… There is no other definition I know of

there are several definitions. solar year, sidereal year, lunar year.

I don’t. For me, the earth being created 5-7 thousand years ago is unrealistic (I respect those who have this position, and won’t argue with them). I personally believe the earth was created millions, if not billions of years ago. Though, the creation of the human race is a totally different topic.
