Does anyone know about reiki?

This is relevant to some extent I suppose.

The force that people discuss is real. Chinese call it “chi” and Japanese call it “ki.” And there’s probably other names for it, such as “electromagnetic field.”

But regardless of what you call it, it’s real. There is a force that you give off, well everybody gives off, and you can train yourself to pick up on other people’s presence by sensing this radiating force from others.

I learned to do it when I studied karate. If you actually spend time developing it outside of normal karate class (which I did) then you can get pretty good at it. That was years ago though.

If the “ki” can be radiated and sensed, it can surely be manipulated in other ways. Personally, I think it’s one of those completely natural phenomena that some religions pick up on and use in their “spirit world” stuff and I believe such use has no part in Christianity.

Maybe one day people will be able to understand it better and good uses can come of it. Until then, I’ll just use it to block strikes from people that attack me before they attack me. 🙂
Do you have sources, that state what this “energy” is ie Magnetisim, Electracal, EMF? if so post them.

Reiki
Pronounced as ray-key; from the Japanase words Rei = spirit, and Ki = life force energy.

An occult, new age healing technique developed by Japanese Buddhist monk Mikao Usui Sensei, based on Sanskrit sutras believed to relate to cosmic symbols used by the Buddha for healing. Sometimes described as a form of Shinto/Buddhist Qigong.

Healing energy is said to be channeled into a patient’s body by laying on of hands. However, generally, no contact is made with the body. Practitioners claim the healing energy can also be applied long-distance (e.g. on mailing lists, people are sometimes asked to “send Reiki” to someone).

Buddhist also use the practice to help transcend the ego, and to see “Reality.”

Reiki is not a religion, but rather a religious practice. Popularized in the West as a New Age, alternative healing technique. Reiki practitioners say that Reiki is not taught, but rather “transferred” by a Reiki Master.

Reiki stopped me in my tracks last year. I was looking at getting involved with the Oblate program at a Benedictine Monastery nearby. However, I found out that they were offering reiki classes! Several nuns there are “Reiki masters”!!! The week prior, I had heard Johnette talking about it on “Women of Grace.” I was horrified that a group of nuns had been so deceived. As a result, I withdrew my interest in the program. I am still searching for an associate program or third order to get involved with. But I study very closely what they offer before I sign up.

It is truly scary how many catholics have fallen into the reiki trap lately.

Poppycock!! There is no “reiki” trap. Gee, it’s different and a lot of people don’t understand it, so it must be automatically evil and taboo. Cmon!!!

Gee, have you ever thought that since nuns at a monastery are using reiki, that I might not be so bad after all? Don’t be so judgmental. Most responsible Reiki practitioners feel whatever healing talent they may have comes from God. Laying on of hands. Heard of that?

Just because the nuns use it does not mean that it is good. They are not infallible beings, and are just as likely to sin as the rest of us. Unfortunately things such as reiki are quite insidious as it seems to pray on otherwise good people who only want to help. Laying on of hands? yes I’ve heard of it, what of it? Surely you’re not equating a mystical, occult form of energy healing which has been pretty much proven to be a waste of time with the power of the Almighty?

God Bless

Right on brother! It is a very dangerous trap and deception. People will go to great lengths to justify it as being compatible with Christianity. Many “Catholic” retreat centers that offer this poison are run by radical feminist nuns who also offer classes such as: enneagram, mandalas, eco-spirituality, sophia worship, labyrinth walking, and wiccan-like practices.

Run far from reiki…run very far.

I agree mikew262 along with those nuns, priests or whoever are self decieved.

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally **as he will. **

From what I am seeing in Reiki, is NOT of the HOLY SPIRIT, but I am seeing another spirit, specifically a demon.

Discernment is one of the gifts, which I know has been given to me by the HOLY SPIRIT. And, I clearly see that Reiki is NOT of God.

Many cults like the mind science one’s have healing, no lower level negative effects, that does not change the fact that these systems along with Reiki are demon inspired.

You are a wise man. May everyone who is contemplating a journey to the dark world of reiki be watchful.

I don’t look at it as being judgemental…It’s being discerning. My research has told me that Reiki is not good for Catholics. I can’t help it if nuns are dabbing in it. All I know is that it makes me very uncomfortable. “Laying of hands” requests the power of God’s intervention. Can you say the same for Reiki? Maybe you’re not being judgemental enough? I’m worried about my soul, not anyone’s opinion.

Thanks so much Daniel for your response. 👍 A wise man indeed.

I remember watching Johnette on “The Abundant Life” on EWTN and I’m glad I watched and listened. I’m glad I never came across anything like that but if I ever did, I will recognize it.

I agree. I don’t think it’s being judgemental either. And I like your response, “I’m worried about my soul, not anyone’s opinion.” Great answer! I also worry about my soul and not someone’s opinion if they think anything and everything is a-okay. I’ll take Daniel’s discernment any day over some “I’m okay, you’re okay” kind of person’s opinion.

Well you all can stay narrow minded and misinformed if you like, but I happen to know Reiki hasn’t hurt anybody I know, and if nothing else has helped them feel better.

My wife is a Reiki master and she isn’t a spawn from Hell. She is a nurse and would never knowingly hurt anybody. Several nursing schools have started teaching it.

Just because it isn’t mainstream, doesn’t make it bad. If it helps some people, so what? If any of you have proof that it comes from Satan, I’d like to hear it. Except for opinions, I doubt you’ll find it.

BTW, don’t you think if the Church thought it so evil, they would’ve put a stop to that monastery using it?

If you bothered to read the Christian reiki site I provided, it does a pretty good job explaining that they feel the healing power comes from God and many do pray to him before they initiate it.

At least now I know why you defend it so thoroughly. I don’t care to dabble in reiki…that’s all! You are allowed to have your opinion and I will have mine. My very soul says it’s wrong so that’s what I’m going with. And I checked out your link but it does nothing to change my opinion because that’s all that website is - an opinion. Please don’t get defensive about a mystical practice. No one is attacking your wife!

i find something rather intersting about this topic

laying of hands
  • 3-4 spiritual sacraments before use.
  • similar intention
  • done by will of god
  • SAME
REIKI
  • 3 attunements
  • Intention
  • Done by will of lifeforce~~
  • Practitioner not the healer
they are much more similar than you think. if you follow TRUE reiki “doctrine” since you really are (should) not pulling the power but acting as a guide for it do perform the healing as it deems necessary, and the hand movments, are done as guided by intution.

as for the attunements, it could be considered that baptisim water OR (more likely) holy spirit, is a form of attunment. since many after baptised in the holy spirit DO have a religious experience.

VERDICT: 4 things, both are compatible, one is right and one isn’t but are doing the same thing (somehow?). or both are doing nothing!, or both are not really compatible, but one is mistakenly thought to be.

it is debated if the charismatic movment, is spiritually ok, some believe that we should not be involved with the speaking in tongues, healing, other “gifts”. some claim it no longer applies, (pentecostal)

findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0JQP/is_303/ai_30438166 also details that the pope exercised true ex cathedra, Infallible docturine, twice (possibley 3), and none of them had to do with this matter or abortion, but were of feast days.

olrl.org/doctrine/Charismatic_Movement.shtml offers an logical criticism to the Charismatic movement, laying of hands stems from this movment.

both need a very serious consideration, as to which really is valid if any.

people have said stick with laying of hands and the true methods of healing, but are we just trading one “pagan/occult” technique for another just as bad, but widely favored.

i would trust the bible over the church, since things tend to get distorted, and stick with simple prayer, since that can NEVER go wrong.
