Does anyone know about reiki?

the holy spirit, where is that, isn’t that described as WITHIN!, a Charismatics renewal OR baptism of the holy spirit. and they say you either receive it or have " a outpouring of the holy spirit" so reiki could misname the holy spirit. as the source of the energy.

still hasn’t really changed my opinion of the similarity, and the fact BOTH need to be looked at before considering.

James 5:14
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Scripture plainy teaches us to go to the church when we are sick.

This does not mean we are not to employ doctors, Paul tells Tim to use medicince, wine for stomach to be exact.

I have the gift of discernment, and I see the demons behind Reiki.

all I can tell our guest is Repent and seek the true God. If the Holy Spirit chooses to give you the gift of discernment you will tell your wife to run from practing reiki which is NOT of God. I am sure your wife means well, as do those who are trapped in the mind science religions. But, being well meaning does not make reiki or any other system right.

Scripture has warned us that in the last days,

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Ephesians 4:10-16 (King James Version)

10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with **every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; **

15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

2 Corinthians 11

1I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that. 2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3But** I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ**. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. 5But I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.” 6I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.
7Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge? 8I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you. 9And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. 10As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine. 11Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do! 12And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. 13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

**Someone else here already pointed out that Reiki runs with evil company, that is other new age practices. **

1 Corinthians 15:33

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Since, we already have seen on the surface the poor company that Reiki keeps. And, that Reiki is NOT of the Holy Spirit. We don’t need any other proof.

Repent is all I can say to you.

Matthew 7:22-23 (King James Version)

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

You say Reiki does not hurt anyone. On the surface that may be true. But, deep down it leds people away from Jesus. And, those people in the Last days, Jesus will say, “I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity”.

It is time for you to stop your self deception and Repent of your sins.

The greatest concern would seem to be the identity of the “spirit guides.” Since they are typically contacted in ways expressly forbidden in Scripture, and since they advocate unbiblical ideas and practices, it is honestly quite difficult to view them as anything other than the biblical demons. The authors of this chapter conclude by stating: “Reiki is antithetical to biblical Christianity. Channeling is a way of communicating with spirits to obtain information not otherwise accessible. It is denounced in the Bible as sorcery, mediumship, and spiritism (Lev. 19:26, 31; 20:6; Deut. 18:9-14…).”
It seems to me that Reiki has the potential to be spiritually harmful. I would pray for your friend and encourage her to give serious consideration to the biblical warnings mentioned above.

Know Your Reiki Guides…the Art of Listening

ask that the Reiki energy help connect me with my guides. … I asked my guides to tell me where my next home was to be.

This same technique applies for me when I am doing Reiki treatments on others. When I find an area of the person’s body that has a blockage, and I feel that we need additional information about this, **I use the same process of connecting with my guides to receive a specific answer. **
… communicating with guides …When we are frustrated because we don’t feel our guides presence…
…I find this important to do, especially when working with clients and students. It is very healing to know that someone cares enough to really listen. Sometimes I find it helpful to invoke the distant symbol when I am having a pre-treatment dialogue with a client. **In this case I do so with the intention a bridge of light connects our higher-selves and guides, **and that we are conversing from our higher minds and hearts. This enables me to hear things that may not be verbalized but are important to the healing session.
In closing, I would like to borrow a phrase from the Course in Miracles, “Every encounter is a holy encounter. …

Compassion Brings Help From Higher Sources
There are higher sources of help you can call on. Angels, beings of light and Reiki spirit guides as well as your own enlightened self are available to help you. They can help you develop your Reiki practice by directing clients to you and assisting with treatments. They can be of great benefit, but you must have a strong spiritual intention for your work if you are to recruit their aid. If you are doing Reiki in a selfish way, only for money or to gain control over others or to take on an air of self-importance, or for any other negative purpose, then it will be very difficult for these **spiritual beings **to work with you. There must be congruence, an alignment within you in order for the Higher Power in the form of Reiki to flow through you in a powerful way and in order for the angels, Reiki spirit guides and other spiritual beings to work with you. Reiki wants only the best for you, but you must align with the nature of Reiki if you are to gain the greatest benefit. The more you can open to the true nature of Reiki which is to have an unselfish heart centered desire to help others, then the more the Reiki spirit guides can help you. Focus on helping others and on healing anything within yourself that may stand in the way of an uninhibited flow of love and compassion. This is what will make your Reiki practice a success!

Again you are being told to REPENT. And, in loving concern I say REPENT to your wife too.

You don’t know that at all. You have a right to your opinion, but thats all it is, an opinion. Maybe those spirit guides are actually guardian angels. Of course, I don’t know that for sure, but neither do you know for sure that they are demons.

Reiki is an occult practice, we are told not to practice anything to do with the occult. If you practice it, you should repent.
Sorry, although I don’t practice it, I see no evil in it. I see no need to repent, if it’s used to help and/or heal. Responsible Christian practitioners of it believe any healing power they may have comes from God.

Unfortunately it isn’t open to interpretation. If you like, I can provide Biblical verses against it, and, if you’re Catholic, a direct reference from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Everything can be open to interpretation. Christians are always interpreting what the Bible is trying to say. The Catholic Church has it’s certain interpretation, other denominations have theirs.

Whose to say that certain people who practice Reiki have not been granted certain healing powers by the Holy Spirit? A gift from God. As long as they are using it in his name, there is no harm. Jesus and his disciples healed the sick all the time by touching with their hands, why should not some people follow their example if they are so inclined?

No need to send scripture or catechism passages to me, but thanks anyway.

If you feel Reiki is somehow evil and sinister, then by all means stay away from it. I believe you are in error in thinking that way, but thats your right.

OK, well, I offered the passages, they were declined, as long as it is noted that they exist. All I’ll say on the matter is: If it comes from the Holy Spirit, WHY was it discovered by a pagan? I don’t know any promise of Jesus that goes along the lines of ‘‘O ye who do not believe! What the heck, I’ll let you perform miracles in my name too’’

One more point. I am a martial artist, I believe my above average strength and fighting ability are a gift from God. If I go out tomorrow and knock someone unconscious…but I do it believing it is in Gods name, is that OK?

If you do a little research, I think you’d be surprised just how much influence paganism has had on Christianity. Nothing wrong with that, after all many of the early Christians were originally pagans.

If you check Acts out, there are several passages that mention if you heal in Jesus’ name, it’s a-ok. I’m para-phrasing of course. I can provide chapter and verse if you’d like.

In your martial artist example, obviously you are harming someone; a Reiki practitioner is doing quite the opposite. Apples and oranges my friend. Over the many centuries much has done in “God’s name”, I suppose it’s ultimately up to him, you used his name justly and who didn’t.

Assume for a second that reiki is not real, or consult the numerous scientific investigations which have proved just that. Then, whether or not the practitioner believes it is real or not, is irrelevant, they are taking money away from people (yes a lot of them do charge for their ‘‘services’’), the person who handed that money over could be quite destitute, but believes in reiki wholeheartedly. They have been harmed by the actions of the ‘‘reiki master’’.

I know just how much influence paganism supposedly had on Christianity, don’t worry about that. Healing in Jesus’ name is fantastic, however when that power did not come from God, but from an ‘‘attunement’’ with a ‘‘reiki master’’ and you actively practice alongside another person who believes Shiva is active in their healing, or Kwan Yin, or Cerrunos, or Gaia etc etc, THEN you have a problem.

Also consider for a second the ‘‘reiki master’’ master implying that they have mastered reiki. If reiki is the Holy Spirit, how dare that person blaspheme in such a way as to claim to have mastered God?

God Bless

Peter

I know of nobody who has said they have mastered God. Boy, you are really stretching to find some kind of rebuttal aren’t you?

Give it up. If Reiki bothers you, fine, don’t be associated with it. To be honest, I don’t 100% understand it, but from what I have seen and read, it’s not evil and many who practice it feel it stems from God. At the least, it doesn’t do anything, and if it happens to help, then thats a good thing.

You and many others who take the position similar to yours reminds me of the thought process of the witchhunters and similar types of centuries past. “What this person is doing is strange and spooky and we don’t understand it, so it automatically has to be evil, sinister, and Satan spawned, so lets burn and torture them till they stop”. Now obviously nobody is going to burned at the stake or tortured over this, but I think you get my drift.

Ha, that wasn’t a stretch, if Reiki is the Holy Spirit, and you are a reiki master, you have in effect claimed to have mastered the Holy Spirit.

I understand the thought behind it perfectly, most likely a lot better than you do so please, don’t assume that this comes from a lack of knowledge on the subject. I don’t agree with torture for any reason, I do however agree with educating the ignorant. I get your drift, please don’t accuse me of desiring to burn misguided individuals.

Please, address the other points I raised.

God Bless

Educating the ignorant? Nevermind, I’ll try to stay civil.

Look, we obviously disagree and we’re not going to change each other’s minds, so why don’t we just drop it.

BTW, you missed my drift completely. I wasn’t accusing you of wanting to torture or burn anybody. My point was that folks back then accused people of evil things and the vast majority of the time, the victims weren’t guilty of anything evil, such as the case here (IMO).

I didn’t mean to call you ignorant, I apologise. Even when I used the word ignorant, I didn’t mean it in the sense it has been taken. However looking at my post again I certainly could have worded it better.

And witchcraft is evil. Some people may have been innocent of it, but it makes them innocent, not the act they were accused of.

Thanks for the apology.

Back then just about anything different than the norm was called witchcraft. If a woman used a herb to heal somebody, she was a witch. If she suffered from Epilepsy and had seizures, she was a witch, etc. Anything that was different from the norm (like maybe Reiki today), was considered evil and dealt with harshly.

BTW, modern witchcraft (Wicca) is not evil, it’s not Christian, but it’s not evil. They have nothing to do with Satan. It’s more nature based.

It’s quite a shame that those people were mistaken for witches, however, true withcraft is evil, that isn’t negotiable from any Catholic viewpoint, Scripture or Tradition.
I’m quite aware of Wicca, again I disagree with it entirely, both as a false religion and an unsubstantiated one (created in the 50’s with a mish mash of beliefs from various pagan sources) however, there are people who also practice other, even more harmful varieties of witchcraft, including but not limited to devil worship.

Please realise I am not on some crusade to hurt these people, I merely disagree with them, also please don’t take my rebuttals as personal attacks, I merely enjoy debate 🙂 . Finally, to any Wiccans reading this. I disagree with your religion, however I do not disagree with your right to choose it, to follow it etc.

God Bless

Peter

Yes. I know people who have started in reiki and are drawn to wiccanism–it is very sad.

I also know those who have gone into great debt to be trained as a “reiki master”. If reiki is of the Holy Spirit, why is it so expensive?
