Does anyone know about reiki?

Yes. I know people who have started in reiki and are drawn to wiccanism–it is very sad.

I also know those who have gone into great debt to be trained as a “reiki master”. If reiki is of the Holy Spirit, why is it so expensive?
And if you truly were filled with the Holy Spirit, so much so that you could heal with a touch, why would you charge for it?

God gives the power to heal as he does. But we all still have the choice to try to heal poeple on our own, with the energy our spirit has. With Gods power its stronger, more complete, more concentrated, and more focused. With reiki, all the focus comes from the mind and all the energy come from ourself which takes time to replenish. Ultimately its all Gods energy, becuase He is everything.

There very well be a scripture reference that covers this, but even if there isn’t, it doesn’t mean it goes against God. The Bible doesn’t cover every situation. Catholics don’t adhere to Sola Scriptura (if it ain’t in the Bible, then it must be wrong).

Most do, those that don’t are often hippies or neopagans, not Christians, and as for those poor misguided nuns, their vow of poverty prevents it.
Maybe in England that may be true, but I haven’t seen that trend here to a large degree. A lot of Reiki practitioners are health care workers, massage therapists, etc…

While that may be true. If something is specifically warned against in the Bible, which sorcery is, numerous times, then whether we adhere to sola scriptura or not we must avoid it.

But are they Christian? The Lord did not promise healing powers to Christians and whoever else feels like joining in and getting attuned.

You don’t know that at all. You have a right to your opinion, but thats all it is, an opinion. Maybe those spirit guides are actually guardian angels. Of course, I don’t know that for sure, but neither do you know for sure that they are demons.
No they are NOT guardian angels, they are in fact demons.

In fact, it appears the site talking about “spirit guides” is the same one that set up that deceptive christian reiki site.
Explaining Reiki to Christians
Have you ever had difficulty explaining Reiki to Christians? Have Christians ever said negative things to you about Reiki? Have you ever had potential students or clients back away from Reiki because they are Christians and you found it difficult to answer their questions?
Are you a Christian who would like to practice Reiki, but are concerned about it going against your beliefs? Are you a Christian who practices Reiki and finds it difficult explaining what you do to your Christian friends?
While Reiki is not religious and it is practiced by people of all religious persuasions as well as those with no religious convictions, the issue of Reiki and Christianity is one that most Reiki practitioners have had to deal with from time to time. The purpose of the Christian Reiki web site is to help Reiki practitioners deal with this issue in a helpful and positive way. I hope you find it useful.

Overt denial that Jesus is the Christ, by redefining the meaning of Christ,
This new consciousness is coming to many people now and in a short time will become the normal state for most of the people on earth. You might say that it is a higher aspect of Reiki consciousness, but it has gone by many names and it is becoming more and more available to all of us. Jesus spoke of it as the second coming of Christ and I believe that he did not mean that Jesus would return to earth as he did 2000 years ago, but that the spirit of the Christ would become available to all of us.
This Christ consciousness is not limited to those of the Christian religion, but is available to members of all religions and spiritual paths. In fact, this higher way of manifesting our lives has been part of all religious practices and has gone by many names depending on which religious or spiritual group named it. A breakthrough like this is possible with Reiki, so I encourage you to accept this possibility and work with it. Let us release all desire to hold onto negative ways that limit our happiness, but instead, embrace the inner light of Reiki. Within the source of Reiki resides the love of the universe. Those who focus on this love, and surrender to it’s healing power are opening to wonderful changes that will lead not only to peace within, but to peace on earth.

According to Mochizuki, Dr. Usui was born August 15th, 1865 in the Gifu district. He died at age 62 on March 9th, 1926 in Fukuyama, Hiroshima. Dr. Usui was not a Christian and may not have been a Buddhist. He was most likely a spiritualist and psychic. People who do his kind of work were called “Rei Jyutu Ka” which means, “people who have spiritual skill.” It was during his activities as a spiritualist that he rediscovered Reiki on Kurama-yama, a sacred mountain outside Kyoto. He established a healing society in Tokyo in 1922 and started giving treatments. Usui created the three degrees or ranks of Reiki which he called Shoden (First Teaching), Okuden (Inner Teaching), and Sh(name removed by moderator)iden (Mystery Teaching). He moved to Nakano, Tokyo in 1925 and expanded his healing center.

1 John 1:8-10

8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 2:22
Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:1-10

1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son** into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for[c] our sins.

1 John 5:11-12
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Basically, Reiki teaches gnosticism. Denies that they are sinners in need of a Saviour. They believe that they are “at one” with their concept of God as a higher engery or power. They proclaim that they are perfect, without sin. They twist the scriptures to their own eternal damnation — no reference to hell, satan, demons, devils, eternal punishment, etc., They see Jesus as a man, and seperate him from Christ Conscieousness thus denying the biblical concept of Jesus is the Christ. They do not have the Son of God in their lives. They are going to be part of the “I never knew you” in Matthew 7:22-13.

One need only (name removed by moderator)ut any Christian Theological term in a google search of their major site, to see that they redefine those terms or that those terms are missing completely.

Their Satanic theology is simply that of gnosticism which is contray to christianity.

Matthew 7:22-23

22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

There are people who work miracles, and Jesus sends them to Hell.

Matthew 25:46

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

There is an eternal punishment which includes gnostics.

For what?
Teaching false doctrine on these forums for starters.

Galatians 1:6-8

6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me.

Reiki teaches the god of gnosticism, not that of the Bible, thus you and your wife are involved in false worship of other gods.

2 Peter 3:16 (New International Version)

16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

2 John 1:7-10 (King James Version)

7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Reiki is an occult practice, we are told not to practice anything to do with the occult. If you practice it, you should repent.
Amen, his gnositic doctrine will land him in hell, eternal punishment Matt 25:46. He is blind to sin, blind to the real Jesus Christ, blind to the true gospel. The Reiki religon, site teaches thing contray to the Bible – I have shown this with the googles in above posts.

2 Corinthians 4:4
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Sorry, although I don’t practice it, I see no evil in it. I see no need to repent, if it’s used to help and/or heal. Responsible Christian practitioners of it believe any healing power they may have comes from God.
Matthew 7:22-23 (New International Version)

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Mike, many who say what you said and who work miracles are going to Hell aka Eternal Punishment. ( Matt 25:46 ). As you see from below even the “unrighteous” will be able to perform miralces.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (King James Version)

9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan **with all power and signs and lying wonders, **

10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

In the OT, those working under the power of Satan were able to work miracles in front of Moses in egypt.

Unfortunately it isn’t open to interpretation. If you like, I can provide Biblical verses against it, and, if you’re Catholic, a direct reference from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Please give those sources since they will show how catholicism and the bible agree in full aganist those evil practices.

Everything can be open to interpretation. Christians are always interpreting what the Bible is trying to say. The Catholic Church has it’s certain interpretation, other denominations have theirs.

Whose to say that certain people who practice Reiki have not been granted certain healing powers by the Holy Spirit? A gift from God. As long as they are using it in his name, there is no harm. Jesus and his disciples healed the sick all the time by touching with their hands, why should not some people follow their example if they are so inclined?

No need to send scripture or catechism passages to me, but thanks anyway.

If you feel Reiki is somehow evil and sinister, then by all means stay away from it. I believe you are in error in thinking that way, but thats your right.
Again Jesus himself says, many of those working miracles in his name will be sent to Hell.

Matthew 7:22-23 quoted often enough in above posts.

If you do a little research, I think you’d be surprised just how much influence paganism has had on Christianity. Nothing wrong with that, after all many of the early Christians were originally pagans.

If you check Acts out, there are several passages that mention if you heal in Jesus’ name, it’s a-ok. I’m para-phrasing of course. I can provide chapter and verse if you’d like.

In your martial artist example, obviously you are harming someone; a Reiki practitioner is doing quite the opposite. Apples and oranges my friend. Over the many centuries much has done in “God’s name”, I suppose it’s ultimately up to him, you used his name justly and who didn’t.
Acts 16:16-18 (New International Version)

16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

What exactly did this girl do wrong? She had spirit guides or demons that Paul casted out.

Acts 19:13-16 (New International Version)

13Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15(One day) the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” 16Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

Here are well meaning Jewish people who did not know Jesus casting out demons in Jesus name. But, in the end the demons kicked their butts. Why did God allow the demons to kick their butts? Because the text is not saying “it is ok”.

Acts 8:9-24 (New International Version)

9Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is the divine power known as the Great Power.” 11They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. 12But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[a] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

20Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”

24Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”

Why was Simon’s desire to have the power of “laying of hands” wrong and evil? Because he desired to have the power of laying on of hands!!! In short, the passage is saying IT IS NOT OK.

Above when non-apostles tried to lay hands on people to cast out demons or to heal, things went bad for them. Below, laying of hands had two meanings, one the apostles healing someone or casting out a demon, and two the church ordaining someone for service like in Acts 13.
