StarMaiden, I’m discerning with these sisters as well! I wrote them in November and only few days ago received a reply šŸ™‚ It was very nice and I’m very excited. I’m planning to visit England this year, most likely in Autumn. I’m also in contact with two other Dominican congregations in UK.
The Bushey Dominicans’ age limit is about 50, as they said me. I’m looking forward for new mail from them.

We can stay in touch indeed šŸ™‚ For me, joining one of dominican communities in UK is a good option (because I know the language šŸ™‚ And, you probably can give me some guidance about travelling UK? šŸ˜‰ Have you been in London? I wonder what are ā€œmust-see catholic placesā€ there I can visit during a couple of days, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to explore the UK capital when I’d arrive there.

Feel free to PM me if you want šŸ˜‰

I have found some orders who I have contacted, but there is one that I feel a pull towards and that is ā€˜The Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Sienna’. I have checked out their website and for want of a better phrase it ā€˜ticked all the boxes’. Now I am waiting to get some info from them about the order.

Please hold me in your prayers, so that I may do what Our Lord wills NOT what I will.
i know those domincans! i studied in one of their schools here in the Philippines

Hi,

I’m also investigating the Dominican Sister of St Catherine of Siena and so far I like what I have heard very much! šŸ™‚

I am waiting to get some more information from them, but my post here is very erratic at the moment 😦

Does anyone know of any contemplative/active carmelite orders in the UK? I am not having much luck finding them if they are around.

Here is some information:

Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirm have one convent in Ireland:
db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.nsf/org/113
carmelitesisters.com/

Corpus Christi Carmelite Sisters have a house in England:
db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.nsf/org/154
corpuschristicarmelites.org/

As far as there being an active/contemplative order that was founded in the UK, I know of no such order. 😦

But I would suggest that you look into the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus in Sittard, Netherlands. I looked on a map, and the Netherlands are REALLY close to the UK.

Here is some information about the Motherhouse in English:

carmelitedcj.org/convents_motherhouse.asp

Also, here is the translated Motherhouse website:

The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother are another possibility. They have the Carmelite spirituality (I’ve met some of them, and they are amazing!). The closest convents though are in Spain and Italy. I know that’s not as close as you would like, but I thought I’d mention them:

I hope this helps! God bless!

Thank you so much for all your help 😃

The Franciscan Minoresses and the Franciscans of Littlehampton might fit the bill. I think.

Do you know of any Carmelite orders? StarMaiden was looking for active/contemplative Carmelite orders. I gave her a few, but I was wondering if there was one that had it’s foundation in the UK. šŸ™‚

Carmelites? Discalced Carmelites monasteries up and down the UK (16 monasteries) and Ireland (11 monasteries)…Carmelites for the Aged and Infirm have a house in Dublin (wrong country, but close, same language)…maybe the DCJ Sisters, not sure…the Leaven, a secular institute which can be contacted through the Carmelite Fathers of the Ancient Observance…the Donum Dei Missionary Institute’s branch, Missionary Workers of the Immaculate-which is located at Aylesford, the old restored Carmelite priory the last two groups are consecrated women, but not Religious Sisters or nuns, though the latter have a special habit and wear a brown or silver scapular on a chain.

Well I did a web search today and I found a contemplative/apostolic carmelite order 😃 It is the ā€˜Carmelite Sisters of Corpus Christi’. I have an address and I am going to write to them for some more information.
