missal/hymnal titled JourneySongs ? My parish just got it and I’m wondering if it’s ‘kosher’ so-to-speak. I know people complain about heterodox and watered down songs, but since I’m new at discerning orthodox vs. heterodox in the liturgy, etc. I was wondering if you could offer your opinions on this missal/hymnal.

thanx

JourneySongs is an Oregon Catholic Press (OCP) publication. Here is the website for it: ocp.org/en/products/worship/14435.php
I find that OCP tends to be very liberal, as they promote Haugen, Haas, and Shutte - the three composers I dislike the most.
I found this commentary:
OCP has a few hardbound hymnals, but sells mainly on their missalettes and disposable yearly “music issue”. Forget “Glory and Praise”, their worst product. Let’s get to the one closest-to-decent hymnal “Journeysongs, Second Edition” and their missalette/music issue. These worship aids contain very little (25-30%) in the line of standard hymn tunes. Very few of their new tunes are anything close to well-written. Much is the “Praise and Worship” style pushed by the progressive popluation. What’s worse, much of the garbage is published in full, while many tradtional texts are missing verses.

According to the commentator, it seems to be the best of a bad lot.

I found Tantum Ergo (sp?) in it, so I thought it had possibilities…

Thanks for the link 🙂
