Does anyone own a copy of "My Sunday Missal" by Father Stedman?

Hello I wanted to buy this missal for mass on Sundays in the FSSP chapel that I attend. And since it costs only $25 and not the $50 or more that a daily missal costs…it is more in my budget at the moment.

I purchased one several months ago. It is small(pocket size), so if you wear glasses to read you will need them at Mass. The font used is clear. The side by side latin-english is easy to follow. I find it to be a good alternative to the Daily Missal if you normally do not make many daily Masses. hope this helps.

Yes, your comments have helped alot. I too am not able to make it to daily mass at the FSSP chapel due to the distance it is away from my home, so I can only make it to Sunday mass there. This missal will surely be of immense help for my being able to keep up with the Latin at the mass on Sundays.

Yes, I have it and it’s a wonderful Sunday missal. Each Sunday Mass is preceded by a lesson on the readings of that Mass (which helps us to get more meaning out of the Holy Mass). The catechism is also good in presenting the basic truths of the Faith. I especially like the Treasury of Prayers at the end, as well as the Examination of Conscience and rules for making Confession. All in all, an excellent Sunday missal.

I have it and it’s very nice as a pocket Sunday Missal. I think it was designed when people walked to Mass or took the subway and didn’t want to carry a missal, so they could put this in a jacket pocket or purse very easily.

I’d recommend looking on Ebay for a St. Joseph’s sunday missal (1961 version or eariler). You can find a number of those for around $20 each (maybe less depending on condition). That is a better purchase to use each Sunday. It will be easier to read each week.

At that point people became more aware of what was going on in the mass and wanted to follow it. Until that time most had sat quietly, or said the rosary. I got mine in grade school. When I started going to daily mass more frequently in college, I got the St Joseph Daily missal.

The notes and commentary explanations in the Fr. Stedman missal are great also, so you really can’t go wrong.
I also meant the St. Joseph Daily missal, not the Sunday. Then if you get lucky you can find a St. Andrews or a Maryknoll or a Fr Lascance or a New Marian missal … or several others as well.

My sister recently gave me one she found in our family home. We have no idea where it came from. I’m the only Catholic in the family, having come into the Church 22 years ago. As I was opening up various pages that were stapled together it occurred to me that whomever had it was using it during the changing over of the Mass in his/her parish after the Second Vatican Council. Those pages staples together were not long in the Mass as it was being said in her/his parish. S/he had also penciled in various places “Latin” “English” where apparently the vernacular had been introduced.

I don’t go to Mass in the Extraordinary form but I have vague memories of the Mass before the Second Vatican Council. I think this little pocket Missal is very nice. I’m happy to have it.

The missal was very wide spread. I read of some soldiers in the Korean War wanted to go to confession, but no chaplain was available. They met a Korean priest who spoke no English, however he had a Father Stedman missal in Korean. They got out their English versions, opened to the ten commandments and confessed by pointing to the commandment and indicating the Number of times with their fingers while he followed in his Korean copy.

Everyone I knew had a copy of * My Sunday Missal* when I was in grade school (1949-1957).

I sometimes have difficulty remembering so far back but I think my Grandfather gave me mine. He taught me my Latin when I was studying to be an alter boy. I wish I had kept it.

I bought a new one recently from Neumann Press and was surprised at how emotional I felt when I fist began reading it again. It brought back many fond memories of my youth.
