Does anyone remember New Coke? What about other old products that aren't around anymore?

Taste is subjective, I guess.

Mary janes were a disappointing find in my Halloween candy. That and Good and Plenty. Good and plenty was deceptive too. Such pretty pastel colors hiding the terrible filling. 🄓

Taste is always subjective. Hence the old adage ā€œThere’s no accounting for taste.ā€ šŸ˜€

My mother loves Good ā€˜n’ Plenty, so she was always thrilled to find it in our Halloween candy šŸ¬

I wasn’t big on Good n’ Plenty because it was licorice, but I ate it. I did like to shake the box and make the rattling noise like Choo Choo Charlie on the TV ad.

I think maybe some candy, like Mary Janes and black licorice, is more for adults. I don’t remember hating Mary Janes as a kid but I was much more jazzed about them as a grownup.

I’m trying to remember which Halloween candy I received that I hated the most, but apart from red and black licorice (which my mom would eat because she liked it) and always getting way way way too many Smarties and Clark bars (because they were the cheapest brands so everyone bought them to give away), I’m drawing a blank.

When I go through my kids’ Halloween bags, they don’t like coconut so I’ll take some of the mounds or almond joy. I also take the runts. That’s a candy that I normally wouldn’t buy but I find tasty in a guilty pleasure kind of way.

I’ve heard a rumor that they are brining back ā€œNew Cokeā€! I think it’s a bad idea, but thou shall not speak ill of Coca-Cola!
It’s basically just a promotional tie-in with the Netflix show ā€œStranger Thingsā€. As that show takes place in the 80s, the season that drops next month will take place in summer of 1985, which is when New Coke came out. So they are turning it into a thing for marketing purposes.

Not a bad idea. I may buy some just to see what it tastes like.

Ry-Krisp crackers

Oh yeah…!

These were sooo good, especially with a nice piece of cheese on them!

My maternal Gramma loved these, and always had some around. šŸ˜‹ 😊

As an aside, I am really flummoxed by the success of ā€œStranger Thingsā€. Even if I do not personally like a series, I can usually understand that X market segment would like it.

ST is not like that. It is made like a made-for-kids show (if Goonies were a TV show) yet is target at an adult audience. I did not make it through the second episode before I stopped watching ā€œthis will never lastā€. I was wrong, but, it is still just bleh (and I am a huge sci fi horror genre fan)

I miss that bandaids don’t come in a metal box with an actual hinge.
Yeah, I know it was wasteful, but those boxes made a great hamper for our Barbies

I was thinking of those boxes recently. Yes, those would have made a great Barbie hamper!

Okay, maybe somebody remembers this:

A little toy mouse, or figurine, about an inch tall, made of fur with black bead eyes and little tiny clothes glued on.

I used to see them all the time, but I can’t find any pictures online because I’m probably using wrong keywords.

Yeah, they’re everywhere on eBay, just search for fur mice. I used to collect them and have a few from when I was a child.
Some crafts people still make them.

Yup, I found them! Little skirts and all.
Used to be they were in every gift shop.
I don’t remember them so much in toy stores like Kiddie City…

I also miss Kiddie City šŸ™‚

How about Dawn dolls? They were popular in the 1970’s. They were fashion dolls about a third of the size of Barbie. I’ll try to find a picture.

Here’s a picture:

Some of those skirts look very short, a flagrant modesty violation 😁.
