Yes we have many Catholics around…unsure of what that even meant, if it was a jab or a sally, at least practice !!a truly good insult must actually have linear coherence . That said… we have a number of bstores, I can only find the readers, now as to inclusive Language I see that more in the New Jerusalem ??? Is this experience of others who have both ??? Pax
I have the 1966 JB bible and just recently sent it to a book binder for a beautiful leather cover. I love it. I also bought a hard cover JB from Amazon as a used book. The bible is like new with just the name of the owner in front. Which by the way is a priest.
The NJB is not “inundated” with inclusive language. It has adopted some of this - mainly innocuous changes like humanity for man - but it is nowhere near as bad as the NAB or NRSV. The NJB is an excellent translation and, based on what I have read from those in the know about such matters, more accurate than the older JB.

That is the JB I have…I have looked and think its the only one in print …it has a nice cover I don’t mind the hardcover , my issue…it has tiny print and the paper…it’s sadly of poor quality, so you get bleed through it makes it hard to read…sad really layout is nice!! It has single column…I love single column as its a more natural flow for reading (very nice to read the Psalms in that format.) I thought I was overly picky…then I read online reviews …a lot of complaints about font size and bleed through, it was great they reprinted it, I wish they had done a better quality I know a number of Catholics who would love to see a good well done JB…The Jerusalem Bible ‘Reader’s Edition’ is still printed by Doubleday. It does not have all the notes and extensive book introductions or maps that the 1966 version has, but it is a lot smaller and easier to carry around. The one problem with this version of the Jerusalem Bible is the printing, Doubleday did not redo the print format of this Bible (which should have been done) instead it looks like they photocopied it, so it is not as sharp and clear as the original. The new reader’s edition sells for $29.95 at Barnes and Noble and probably less at Amazon.
I would like to see Doubleday re-release this version and offer it in a bonded leather edition (like they did with the New Jerusalem Bible), but only after they re-print it. The original 1966 Jerusalem Bible is available on e-bay. along with a 1968 reader’s edition which is bigger than the current version (but probably uses the better paper and print).
For those who posted on the New JB… while I dislike inclusive language, my real beef…is as a lit major…the JB…is a very elegant/eloquent Bible ! Lovely Bible to read…the, New JB…(even not factoring inclusive language) …to me…just lacks the flow and rhythm of the JB…I’m sure some of you who have examined both may feel the same… for those old enough …the NJB is like the disastrous New Coca-Cola of the early 80s!
I bid on a 1968 JB 'reader’s edition on e-bay and won the bid at $9.95 plus $4.00 for shipping. I have not received it yet, but it looks like it will have the same paper and print size as the original 1966 JB. It probably won’t be small but it should be lighter than my 1966 JB.Yes. I received my 1968 Jerusalem Bible ‘Reader’s Edition’, and it is a little bigger than the current 'Reader’s Edition that is available from Double Day. The 1968 version uses the heavier paper like the original 1966 Jerusalem Bible. The print is sharp and clear (like the original) and has a little larger font size (than the current edition). This appears to be the version that was ‘photo copied’ to create the current ‘Reader’s Edition.’ The reason I bought this Reader’s Edition is that it is a lot easier to take places than lugging around my massive 1966 Jerusalem Bible.
Rumor…cross fingers. … Doubleday may do another print…font will not be larger…but…it sounds like a darker strike print and better paper!!! I like the size as well…like you I could handle the font…with less bleed through and a good dark strike on a better paper!!! Hope they do it!!!
Yes! Forgive me! I was not clear.)-: oops! A friend in publishing said that they sold a lot of the readers…but got complaints…it would be “fresh”… The font size would not get too much bigger…or it would not be a compact / readers edition
it will be taking dimensions of the Readers…and giving better milled paper…better ink…hopefully an India…thanks!
