Does Anyone Take Rush Limbaugh Seriously?

Sometimes Rush makes a good point. Other times he raves. I don’t listen to radio too often so I mainly only run across him if someone posts something he says to me on FB. Most of the posts I get attributed to him are pretty spot-on with my own political beliefs–but again, I’m not having to listen to him for an hour–just read a short post on some particular conservative thought he is expressing. i can usually accept that with no problem. I can also take a certain amount of Hannity–to a point. I do enjoy O’Reilly–though sometimes even he’s a bit arrogant too and I absolutely hate–and will turn off—anything where people are yelling over other people and I can’t follow the conversation. As to Chris Mathews–if he actually believes even half of what he says on TV, its amazing he hasn’t been signed up for organ donation long ago–as he’s obviously been brain dead for the last 10 years. Maybe if he’d pull his head out of Obama and Reed’s rear ends long enough to take a good deep breath however, he could be bagged with O2 and revived to some semblance of a quasi-life. But even that is a little doubtful with him–he may be too far gone…
Thanks for the laugh ! 👍

I got into a discussion of right wing radio vs. left leaning radio a while ago. My point was that at least in progressive radio the hosts would have a link to primary sources that they were discussing. One could read the source topic and phone in comments. As usual in America, no one could agree on the topic. At least we were all reading and discussing the same page. Right wingers tend to not give primary sources and shot from the hip. It makes it hard to have an intelligent discussion.
Any thoughts?

I don’t listen to right wing radio…or left wing radio…or watch right wing tv…(FOX) or left wing tv…(MSNBC)…they both preach division…they both will not compromise…one of my son-in-laws watches and listens to nothing but extreme right wing propaganda and believes every conspiracy theory out there…he calls me a RINO because I don’t follow everything the Tea Party preaches…what we need are Republicans AND Democrats who are to the center of their parties who are willing to compromise so we can get this country back to being one that the world looks up to with respect…this way we will get a President who is willing to compromise for the good of our country…not like the President we have now.

I think it has become stylish among people who think they are “cool” to disparage Rush Limbaugh.

Why? What exactly does he say that you “cool people” disagree with? You think that the government spending and high taxes is a good thing? You think legalized abortion is OK? You think that allowing immigrants to enter the country illegally and claim all the rights of citizens is “Christian”? You think that the government, specifically the federal government, should regulate many details of citizen’s lives, and in the process, create a gigantic payroll of government employees to create, write up, implement, and enforce the regulations?

I don’t agree with this at all. What I hear the left using most of the time is not reliable source material but there own manufactured propaganda in place of a source. For example when ever the Tea party is mentioned its taken as fact by the left and often verbally expressed that they are a violent extremist racist nutty fringe movement. Where is the proof of any of that? Where are the sources that can show a single terrorist or racist event perpetrated by anyone in the tea party? A main stream media outlet using a New York times opinion piece as a source in my mind is not creditable.

I am not a republican nor do I consider myself a member of the tea party but I don’t understand how anybody can look at the actions of the Democrats and not see the real Violent extremist nutty racist fringe and I don’t understand how anybody who even makes a half hearted attempt at Catholicism can vote for a political party who’s platform denies the existence of God three times!

I used to when I was in college and fresh out of college. It was a bit if a catharsis for me.

A few years later…
I certainly don’t.

It’s just a lot of sabre rattling and I don’t think healthy political discussion.
This.

My political views haven’t actually changed that much if at all. But I decided I was tired of being emotionally manipulated by people who are paid to get people angry. I didn’t like what I was turning into or what it turns other people into. Though in all fairness, I’ve found Hannity and Beck far more guilty of this than Limbaugh. Rush actually rarely got (or let his persona get) passionately angry on his show.

To be somewhat “fair,” many on the left would point to the Tea Party rallies some years ago with Obama being pictured in “whiteface” or in blatantly insulting/quais-racial terms as sort of “proof” that the Tea Party is partially comprised of (if not actually condones) racists.

The fact that one should not use the actions of a very few to tar an entire movement with a “hate” label seems to elude many on the Left.

Other than that, I mostly agree with you. 👍👍

I’d rather listen to Rush than to blowhard Hannity and (mostly) O’Reilly.

My opinion.

And I’m sticking to it.:p:p

I don’t remember ever seeing anyone with pictures of Obama in white face. Are you referring to the picture of him made up to look like the joker in batman? There’s a big difference between that and minstrel “white face.“

What quais- racial terms were used to insult him?

When it comes to blatant or quais-racial terms and the democrats “The lady doth protest too much, methinks” or “you smelt it you dealt it!”

He’s a bit obnoxious, but he has some good points.
nope, but certainly many people consider him the voice of the GOP which, to me, is scary.😦
Many as in those who don’t like Rush and the right? Sure. Many believe a lot of things that aren’t even true.

I listened to Rush as a high schooler, but Rush and beck and the rest have changed and don’t really represent me. I like listening to Catholic Radio. I especially think Al Kresta does a great job and while he is consevative, he’s not just a GOP cheerleader.

I would definitely NOT call “Rush and the rest” “GOP cheerleaders.”

On the contrary, they are all denouncing what they call “RINOs” (Republicans in Name Only). They’re castigating great Americans like Sen. John McCain. And they’re urging people to vote only for the Tea Party Republicans rather than the Republicans that they consider “wimpy.”

This makes me angry. IMO, the Tea Party candidates should run for office as a 3rd Party (“the Tea Party”) rather than dividing the Republican Party and destroying its chances at the elections.

Of course, it’s frustrating to me and many others, especially the Tea Party Republicans, that the Republican Party has been divided for decades over the social issues. Those Republicans who lean Libertarian are pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, etc., while those Republicans who are trying to incorporate their Christianity into politics are pro-life, anti-gay marriage, etc. And then there are all those Republicans who are trying to be “moderates,” who are unpredictable on many of the social issues.

So I can see why the Tea Party is trying to become the Republican Party. But they aren’t, and they should just form their OWN 3rd party and stop mangling the Republican Party and criticizing their own people. All this accomplishes is getting the Democrats elected.

In the meantime, the Democrats have pushed out anyone or anything that is opposed to their pro-abortion, pro-gay-everything, pro-spend-tax-money-like-it-grows-like-weeds-in-the-fields platforms. There is no such thing as a “moderate” Democrat. The so-called “pro-life” Democrats still vote pro-abortion on almost every piece of legislation that comes up for a vote–they’re only pro-life in front of pro-life voters. (Those nasty little voting records–I’m sure a lot of politicians wish that they could be banned!)

Anyway, I don’t think that Rush, Hannity, and especially Levine can remotely be called “pro-GOP.” I think they’re doing immense HARM to the GOP, and in the last year, I’ve actually wondered if they are in the pay of the Democrat Party and Pres. Obama, charged with the mandate to “divide the Republican Party.”

The problem is that if everyone who sees Republican leadership–such as Boehner and McCain—as RINO’S (and I certainly respect McCain’s service to the country–but he is a first class RINO if I’ve ever seen one) left the Republican party and formed a 3rd party or “Tea Party”–there would BE NO Republican party left–at least not large or powerful enough to win ANY election. AND, frankly, I’d be all for a 3rd party or “Tea Party”—but when you split the Republican Party like that, I doubt the Tea Party would be large or strong enough to carry an election either.

The Republicans need to listen to the average, working class, middle American people and decide on a place where they all can stand–pick their hill so to speak-- and then STAND on it. Ted Cruz is a veritable hero in his district in Texas. He may be getting flack from every lib and all over DC–but barring him sex-texting pix of his groin and getting caught between now and his next election–he’s a shoo-in. They had ticker tape parades for him in his district at his last visit home. Would he be a good Republican presidential candidate in 2014? I’m not so sure. But he would not lose his district in Texas to a Dem if he ran for Archangel.

Republicans may not be able to stand for every conservative value we want them to and win a presidential election now. And BTW, if you take a Republican who’s “middle-of-the-road” by current standards and that means subtracting things like being against Obamacare, or setting a real budget, or actually cutting out pork, limiting entitlements and demanding a strong defense and over all accountability–what do you have? It smells an awful lot like a Democrat to me–and frankly, most RINO’s smell much the same at first whiff!! We may have to back off on repealing Roe vs Wade as a party platform issue to win an election. That doesn’t mean that we abdicate repealing Roe vs Wade ever–it just means that we prioritize and choose issues that most average Americans–especially BOTH Republican and Tea Party Americans can all get behind so we can win an election. We can change the liberal tide in this country–but we didn’t get where we are in one election cycle–we didn’t get some of the fools on the Supreme Court in 5 or even 10 years–and it may take us 10 or even 20 years to remake this country into something most of us could recognize as the USA again!

To that end, if the Republicans would come together and choose a candidate who stood for conservative fiscal principles, repealing Obamacare, restoring our dignity, respect and stature abroad–especially by standing up when we need to in the middle east, supporting our Allies again so they’d know where we stood–and do something serious about the national debt and economy, put in the pipeline, revamp the IRS and tax structure ----and for right now, lay the social issues aside, we could get them elected. Not all Republicans agree about abortion or gay marriage or even legalization of pot or exactly what immigration reform should mean–sad but true fact–but most all DO agree that we are driving our country into bankruptcy with cr*p like Obamacare and that jobs are getting VERY scarce and that our kids probably won’t ever be able to qualify to own a home at this rate–and that some of us oldsters may even lose our own homes if things continue as they are. Find a charismatic middle aged Republican candidate who doesn’t have 50 off shore hidden bank accounts hiding his kazillion dollar fortune and doesn’t belong to a religion where he believes that when he dies he’s going to be CEO of his own planet–and watch what the average American Republican AND Tea Party AND Independent voter will do.👍

Not really. There is Rush and Hannity on one side, and Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews on the other.

All of whom do more damage than good.
I think the worst damage is that syndicated shows (apparently cheaper than paying on-air talent) have destroyed local programming.
In my area we have a big news talk station tht used to have local stuff all day and a couple non-political syndicated shows at night. The came Rush. The rest followed. Now the only local news/talk is 5-9AM then it’s O’Reilly, Hannity, Rush and I forget who else. At 11PM they switch to some UFO kook.

Btw, who are Rush’s sponsors? That’s a good metric. I don’t have cable but the last time I saw O’Reilly I suspect his audience is all 60+ years old.

Never listened to him before Obama…now I get all the info I can.

I listen to Rush during the day at work. He’s better than the other options. I don’t listen that closely, but I have gotten some interesting tidbits from his show. I can’t stand Hannity. I also like Mark Levin, who gets into a lot of historical/constitutional stuff.

I can certainly agree with quite a few of your points, but when it comes to the Tea Party, I think they “play the game” stupidly, plow into the battle with no plan or strategy, talk way too much, tolerate dunces, and sabotage their chances. They need to be “wise as serpents and gentle as doves.” They need to recruit more African Americans and Hispanics and put them front and center, and refuse any interviews or television spots that do not include these African Americans and Hispanics. They need to hire people to guard their every waking and sleeping moment and who will monitor every single solitary word that Tea Party politicians say so that they don’t say dumb things that the media can twist into racism and sexism. And more than anything, they need to hire image-makers who will re-create them so that they’ll come across as “in touch” and “compassionate” and “up-to-date.”

Republicans need to stop trying to come across as ordinary regular middle-class folks. They need to embrace their wealthiness. Romney made an error to try to pretend to be “one of us.” He should have come right out from the beginning and said, “I am so wealthy that I make J.R. Ewing look like a pauper, and I’m not going to try to hide it or pretend to be someone I’m not. I’ve never tasted a hot dog in my life, my wife never cooks our family meals, and when our cars break, we don’t fix them–we just buy a new one.”

In the U.S., one of the things we value is individualism and being “real.”

Yes, I realize that most of the Democratic politicians are even wealthier than the Republicans, and the Republicans could use that against them! They could say things like, “While I was playing polo with Nancy Pelosi at our Club last week…” or “Yesterday Harry and I were enjoying a bottle of Dom Perignon with our caviar while we watched a private showing of Phantom of the Opera–the live musical–in Harry’s home theater in his guest house on his estate…”

Whatever they say should be true, not lies. But I’m sure much of the “rich talk” would not be a lie.

Seriously, the Republican Party needs to wise up and develop and use some more effective strategy, instead of just stumbling along from crisis to crisis.
