CCC 61 The patriarchs, prophets, and certain other Old Testament figures have been and always will be honored as saints in all the Church’s liturgical traditions.

I’m trying to read through the Cathechism and came across that nugget. I feel like this is a part of the Faith I’ve been missing out on. Any suggestions?

I have a particular devotion to King David and especially to Moses.
.
Eastern Catholics have feast days for the patriarchs.

the Carmelite order has a strong devotion to Elijah and, to a lesser extent, Elisha.

Yes, it was St Bertold or Berthold who effectively instituted the community of hermits on Mount Carmel some time in the eleven-fifties, under the Crusader State, but he is said to have considered himself as no more than the successor of Elijah who should thus be honored as the “true” founder of the Carmelite order.

So do Latin Catholics! They’re in the Roman Martyrology, whether or not the priests in your area ever pick their feastdays and optional memorials or not.

The matriarchs and patriarchs used to get more play in the Middle Ages. We should start doing more stuff to celebrate them.

I’ve occasionally said prayers to them if I remember correctly – and also in any prayer in which I include “all the saints” they are covered. I also pray to St. Michael and other angels – maybe they are a little different from human saints, but they’re definitely OT figures.

I pray the Chaplet of St. Michael and come to think of it, it does honor St. Michael and St. Raphael who are both in the Old Testatment.

I didn’t know Elijah was associated with the founding of the Carmelite order and I’ve worn the Brown Scapular off and on for years. I will read more into them in the future. Thank you so much for your (name removed by moderator)ut everyone!

I’m personally inspired by the Hebrew midwives who refused to follow the Egyptian law to kill the male Hebrew babies.

I have prayed to Adam and Eve once. Everybody seems to forget or not know that they are Indeed saints and are not burning in hell!

Yes, Adam and Eve are deemed saints. The Church affirms this especially in the Second Reading for the Office of Readings on Holy Saturday (the awesome account of the Harrowing of Hell: “Rise, let us leave this place”) and by the fact that they are venerated as such. The feast day for Sts. Adam and Eve is December 24th.

If Joseph of the Coat of Many Colors is a saint,
I can identify with him.
