Hello,
I’m really interested in starting work with the pro-life ministry. Could anyone who currently works in the industry make any suggestions for someone who doesn’t have any experience in the industry, other than protesting Planned Parenthood 🙂
Or any recommendations of good organizations?
It does need to be a paying job, not volunteer. Thank you.

I work at a crisis pregnancy shelter. It’s really a blessing to work there.
Check with your local birthright and see if they know of any local pro-life organizations that are hiring. Or you can look in the “help wanted” section of your diocese’s paper.

Thank you for responding. What do you do there?? Is it a paying job? Do you see positions in your clinic that pay enough to support one person? I’m just seeing if this type of job is more of a “side job” or could be an actual means of financial support.

Um, well if you did it full time you’d live above the poverty level. You probably wouldn’t be making much more than 20K maybe 25K a year(full time) in most parts of the country.
I just do it part time. When I’m there I do office work(take calls, type letters, ect). Be there if any of the ladies living there need someone to listen to them. Drive them places when needed, Organize donations, clean. In a place like that there’s an endless amount of things that need to be done.
We also have family specialists on staff. They really help the ladies get their lives on track. They help them with things like education, job placement, housing, get them the medical and sometimes psychological help, secure government assistance and more. Basically get them on their feet. They have a degree in social work. I have no idea what they make. I’m sure they aren’t rich. But no one goes into social work for the money.
It’s really been a great place to work. I’ve learned so much.
You might also want to check with your state’s right to life organization to see if they need help or know of someone who might.
Good luck!
P.S. You might also want to check w/ your local Catholic Charities office. They might know of something.

I wish it was an industry, rather than a part-time avocation on the part of people who can’t or won’t communicate, share resources and even arrive at common definitions of pro-life work.

the best chance is as a paid lobbyist, or on the administrative staff of such an organization. start as you would with any job search, identifying pro-life groups, examining their agenda, tactics, methods of operation and needs, and submit your qualifications based on that analysis.

I’ve been the executive director of a pro-life crisis pregnancy center for over 10 years. Working 30 hours a week, I make half my income there. (I also teach piano, am the music director of a small parish and play for daily Mass at a convent twice a week to make the other half of my income.) It would be tough to sustain myself on what I make at the pregnancy center. I don’t receive health benefits, which has become a problem as I age because my monthly premiums have skyrocketed and continue to do so the older I get. I would recommend you volunteer at a local pro-life crisis pregnancy center. We can ALWAYS use volunteers! There doesn’t seem to be a lot of paid job openings in this field but I’m not trying to discourage you when I say that. If God wants you to do this work for pay, He will show you the way. Blessings to you for wanting to do this work. We need more people who are passionate about the unborn and are willing to do something about stopping abortion which is a travesty from all angles one can look at it. And, if you are reading this because you are interested in the topic, please, please, please pray for those of us who do this work. A Hail Mary every day is all I ask!
