Hi, I study Naprotechnology, and it sounds like to me that your niece may have PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome). I’m not a doctor, studying to be one though. This is a very common syndrome effecting something like 12% of the female population. It can have significant hormonal effects, and the BCP is definetly NOT good for it. In fact, in tandem with BCP it can mask the disease, therefore, you never figure out if thats what she has or not, and it could possibly cause varying degrees of infertility because the syndrome is never diagnosed. The syndrome alone causes hormonal imbalance, hence irregular periods, you add is BCP and you just intensify the problem. We know BCP acts on at least 150 metabolic processes in the body, and probably much more, so the effects are hard to p(name removed by moderator)oint. I would recomend finding a doctor certified in NaPro-Technology. To find one is your area, go to www.onemoresoul.com and you can perform a search. NaPro-Technology is a field of medicine covering all sorts of reproductive issues, from NFP to diagnosing and treating reproductive diseases in a morally sound manner.
I hope this helps…🙂
Yes, I forgot to mention that she does have PCOS. Her doctor knew that when he subscribed the BCP. I will have her see someone else instead of this doctor. He is not an GYN anyway but a family doctor. He did say to her to lose weight and yes, her weight problem started way before her teens. Her dad and mom divorced when she was 5 years old and she has overeaten since. She has lots of anxiety and anger towards her dad. She does does to him where her brother who is 17yr. old won’t. He was only months old when his dad left and says he has no father. She is doing something about it now and doing the I can make you thin program. So far so good. I think once she loses weight she will begin to feel good about herself. She does have another medical problem but I can’t remember what, something to do with her insulin, but she is not diabetic. She also has another disorder or disease, not sure which that cause a dark ring around her neck, hand and breast. I forgot the name of that one too. She is so young to have all these medical problems, but disease come at any age. I would appreciate prayers for her. She is such a beautiful girl and thinks she is ugly. She is beautiful inside too. She always gives and gives and never ask in return. She is our family babysitter. She was told that she will never have kids by GYN doctor and so she is upset about that. I told her only God knows for sure and not to worry until she gets married and than just trust in God. She says she will never get married for she can’t have kids. She will see as she matures her opinion on that will change.

Her medical problems sound a lot like me unfortunately 😦 I have PCOS and am overweight myself. PCOS can cause weight gain and also makes it hard to lose!!! But, more and more research is showing that if women with PCOS can lose weight then many of them gain there fertility back! The PCOS is also causing her to have insulin resistence, which I have as well, which is something that can be treated with medicine, but also can be improved with losing weight as well and diet changes!

So, the key is to lose weight, but like I said, it’s harder for women with PCOS but if it can be done, many things could possibly straighten themselves out. I too had a doctor that blindly prescribed me BCP for my PCOS and am TTC now. I’m trying to find a good doctor in my area (I recently moved) now. I will pray that you will find a good one for your niece as well! :gopray:

I agree with Lady D, I am studying through the Pope Paul VI institute. Dr. Thomas Hilgers has done amazing things with these sort of medical problems, as have the doctors he has trained. Whether it be infertility, libido, or anything. www.onemoresoul.com, this site will give you a list of practicing physicians in your area who practice Napro, and were taught by Dr. Hilgers.

God Bless,

Brady

I just put in our zip code and only one doctor came up and he is too far, in Miami. We live in Orlando. I thought there would be one closer. I may contact the institute itself.

yeah, its kind of sad really, there’s not many of them. They catch a lot of heat because they are staunchly pro-life. The institute is in Nebraska, so its not much closer ha ha, but they may be able to direct you to a Doctor not on the website.

God Bless,

Brady
