Hello. I would greatly like your opinion of my current situation.
My oldest decided not to pick her Godmother and after much hurt and disappointment she quoted Canon Law to proclaim her right as my daughter’s confirmation sponsor. Please elaborate on this subject. Both the confirmation teacher and my Pastor stated that it is not mandatory to pick a God Parent. Please elaborate on the churches definition of the statement below, quoted from canon law.
1311 Candidates for Confirmation, as for Baptism, fittingly seek the spiritual help of a sponsor. To emphasize the unity of the two sacraments, it is appropriate that this be one of the baptismal godparents.129
