Does Christ Implant desire within us?

As I watch Amadeus, I want to ponder something Salieri said, that is “If God didn’t want me to do it, why implant the desire?”
Does God do such a thing?
Does God make us like something, as a way of calling us? For example, the typical story of a young man being attracted to the priesthood because of the cool vestments priests wear. A not so good reason to join the priesthood, but a way to entice one to look into, and eventually join for the right reasons?
 
Salieri’s plight affected me profoundly as I empathized with his frustration about his failures. However, I think his problem had nothing to do with God planting desire in him, but rather his relentless competitiveness with another. Perhaps God’s plan for him did not include becoming the greatest composer. Perhaps his gift was meant for a different concern. But he, IMO, abused what had been given him by turning it into an instrument of greed and ambition.

I do believe we all have gifts that God has bestowed upon us and that our goal is to discern what those gifts are to be used for.
