Does Christianity generate antisemitism and misogyny?

It’s pretty much taken as a given in certain circles (the ones I find myself in, whether I like it or not) that the Biblical accounts of Adam and Eve and St. Paul’s words in the NT on men and women are responsible for perpetuating oppression of women for most of the last two millennia, and that the Biblical account of the Jews calling for Christ’s crucifixion is likewise the cause of antisemitism. Three questinos:
  1. Is this accurate, in your opinion -and-
  2. If so, does this reflect God’s will, -and-
  3. If it does not, why would God allow the Church to err so badly (and if he did, why should we trust that it won’t lead us into error today?)
I’m looking for information, not a fight.

I’ll let someone else answer your questions, but you might retort that if anyone’s to blame for the oppression of women, it’s Darwin. Thanks to evolution, men are bigger and stronger. Bigger and stronger, according to the laws of nature, is better than smaller and weaker. Therefore, being male is better than being female, and therefore women are less than men. Men dominate, women submit. That’s Darwinism for you, and this was the case loooooooong before St. Paul or the book of Genesis. The Bible, as you’ll remember, is only 4000 years old - humanity is much older, and women have been oppressed everywhere and every-when.

Of course, Christianity (and Judaism) rejects this by saying we’re all made in the image and likeness of God, and therefore all equal in dignity (no matter how different we may be).

By their logic, the Muslims (who reject St. Paul and have a different creation story) should be better off in the women’s rights context. What gives? I thought Christianity was the root of all misogyny?

Oh - and did Pharoh believe in the crucifixion of Christ when he persecuted the Jews? If memory serves, they were persecuted well before Jesus…

Just thought I’d give you a way to turn the tables, should you desire to do so.
