Does conditional baptism absolve all sins?

Hello,

I am a baptized Catholic in need of a conditional baptism due to lack of evidence. I am enrolled as a candidate in RCIA to complete my sacraments and my priest wants to conditionally baptize me during Easter Vigil instead of before it. I am worried because in the event that my first baptism was valid, then at the vigil I would be recieving my First Communion and Confirmation in a state of mortal sin and therefore sacreligiously. Can you give me any evidence that I can show my priest that conditional baptism (and first confession) should occur before the vigil?

Hi,

It sounds like you have spoken to your priest about this to no avail. You make a valid point. Your priest should be aware of the fact that Baptism removes all previous sin. But if you have already been validly baptized, then any sins you have committed need to be absolved with the sacrament of Penance.

If your priest doesn’t “get it,” act on your own. I suggest that you go to Confession (to another priest) and tell the priest your situation and that you need conditional absolution!
