Does confession forgive all sins or just the ones you confessed?

Anyone know if the same is true for communal services?

On Tuesday night I went to a communal reconciliation service. The priest had blocked off the 1st 4 rows of pews so no one would sit there but confession took place in the front of the church 4 rows away from ears, I did go to confession but decided well waiting in line to omit a sin (rather then leave the line) as I was worried others would hear, as I was hearing. I also decided in line to go to a more personal confession today. When I went today I listed all of the ones I had wanted to do Tuesday. Is this right? Did I need to mention that I omitted it before? Do I need to go again before Easter and confess all of this?

I don’t think I’ll go to a communal service again, this has been rather stressful!

I heard Fr. Corapi speak on this very subject. What he suggested was that while imperfect contrition was not the best route, it was a start. And if the only reason you’re repenting is due to FEAR of God, rather than LOVE of God, well, at least you’re still repenting.

And to add to that, didn’t Fear of the Lord used to be the name of the Gift of the Holy Spirit that we now call reverence?
