We could likely have a long debate on that alone!Actually, prime mater only exists on its own as an abstraction in the mind. So conceptualizing it is no problem. Imagining it is impossible though.![]()
I think Aquinas would disagree unless you have a quote?
You will i think find he says that abstraction is the process of removing form from matter. Concepts are forms.
How can one truly have a form re something that is by definjtion formless?
I believe our “concept” of PM is a 2 step trick rather than a 1 step concept.
A bit like conceiving of privation (which also dods not exist). So to think of a hole we think of a solid and then remove a cylinder of it.
With PM we think of a solid (eg a statue), and then remove its shape.
Its like those optical puzzles of eternal circular stair wells.
Yes each different form is a species.I thought each person is a member of humanity, individuated by prime matter. Angels are not composites of form and matter so each Angel is its own unique species.
So all humans belong to the same species and also to the genus animal…which genus contains many other species. Likewise all angels belong to the genus of pure created spirits. But the word angel refers to the genus not any particular species of angel (which would be a single person). You can of course call any such individual an angel just like you can call any man an animal.
But I was really looking for more Physics
