Why are there hurricanes and tornados that kill innocent people? Does God cause these to happen?

Hurricanes and tornadoes are naturally occurring and, if you think about it, would be morally neutral if they struck in areas where no heavy population of human beings lived.God does not directly cause natural disasters to happen, though he does permit them to occur.

Natural evils in general are a result of the fact that we are living in a fallen world. When man fell, all Creation fell as well. At the end of time there will be a new heavens and new earth:
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in travail together until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (Romans 8:19-23)
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, * and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)

God is angry at all the homos, so he sends hurricanes and tornadoes. Hurricanes take the most lives, and affect the south and east coasts, where most of the homos live. He reserves earthquakes for homos on the west coast.

Tornadoes pick off the occasional homo found in the central states.

I have a theory. Although God does not cause natural disasters our sins do. Nature cannot oppose God’s Will…only man can do that. When mankind becomes evil in its behavior I feel that nature is in sympathy with God’s sorrow over sin and thus nature rebels against men. The natural world is totally one with God’s Will for it and sympathizes with God at Mans rebellion and thus nature rebels against man or perhaps symbolizes the disorder man brings to the world by his opposition to God"s Will through natural disastors which is nature in chaos. I know that is a bit poetic and yet I really believe it to be true. Why innocent people suffer with the guilty? When a tornado or hurricane stike they do not do so with the precision of a doctor removeing a growth form a patient in surgery. They are random. And whom may I ask, do you know over the age of 7 who is innocent? And those below the age of reason become instant Saints if they lose their life in a natural disaster. I find most people, and I include myself here, are always trying to better the world by fixing things “out there”. If we spent more time trying to fix the problem in ourselves, in our own erring hearts a lot of problems “out there” would take care of themselves. Our Lady told Jacinta of the Fatima apparitions that wars were simply Gods way of punishing the world for its sins. So wars are not cause by presidents and generals or dictators. They are caused by you and me every time we commit a sin. Lets stop blaming world leaders for our problems and start looking to ourselves and correcting our faults. This will end wars and probably many natural disasters.

Hi PM,

Out of all possible worlds, God chose this one, where this and that would happen. He knows this from all eternity, and this is the choice HE made. The whole book of Job is about human suffering and why God lets it happen. No pat anwer is given, but the conclusion is that, being infinitely wise, he knows what’s best.
Ch. 18

Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:
2
Who is this that obscures divine plans with words of ignorance?
3
2 Gird up your loins now, like a man; I will question you, and you tell me the answers!
4
Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5
Who determined its size; do you know? Who stretched out the measuring line for it?
We are in the hands of God, and He knows best.
