Does God Dwell in Zion Forever?

Zion or Sion symbolizes the Church, so yes, God does dwell there forever. St. Augustine refers to it in Psalm 2:6
Yet am I set by Him as King upon Sion, His holy hill, preaching His decree (ver. 6). This is clearly spoken in the Person of the very Lord our Saviour Christ. But if Sion signify, as some interpret, beholding, we must not understand it of anything rather than of the Church, where daily is the desire raised of beholding the bright glory of God,

St. Albert also came to this conclusion
Over Zion his holy mountain. By Zion, which is the upper part of the city of Jerusalem, the capital of Judaea, is understood the Church of the Jews, that small early Church which Christ and the Apostles gathered. It is rightly called a mountain, because of the firmness of faith of its members. —Psalm 124:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion etc.— and also because they were so elevated in virtue. —Isaiah 2:2 The mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains. — and also because they were the first to receive the rays of faith and transmit them to others. —Psalm 76:4 You are bright, majestic from the everlasting mountains (Vul), that is the holy Apostles and the first members of the Church.

The lyrics sound similar to Psalm 68:17:
17Why look you with envy, O many-peaked mountain, at the mount which God desired for his abode, yea, where the LORD will dwell for ever?

The LORD’s dwelling in Zion for ever was conditioned on the Jews remaining faithful to Him. They weren’t so He abandoned Zion to her enemies.

The LORD’s conditional dwelling in Zion was a prefigurement of the LORD’s unconditional dwelling in the physical Body of Jesus Christ (John 2:19) and in His mystical Body, the Catholic Church. (2 Corinthians 6:16)
