Dear Nelka – God IS Love. God NEVER abandons us, no matter how evil we might freely choose, even to tell God we do not love God. When Lucifer, the most beautiful and knowledgeable chose to become evil, God did not – could not – stop Loving Lucifer (Satan). It was Lucifer (Satan) who freely chose to abandon God. God DID, PERMIT, the consequences that Satan chose to come upon him.
If God continues to Love fallen Lucifer (Satan) ?? what is to finally happen? Simple answer? I do not know.
There is one highly respected theologian, Hans Urs von Balthasar, who offers something to think about and to pray about. He writes about Jesus, after His Death and before His Resurrection, Jesus on Holy Saturday. We find in the Nicene Creed, although omitted in the Nicene-Constantinople Creed> “…He Suffered and Died, descended into hell…” I am aware of Limbo of Patriarchs, Limbo of Infants, but I believe Balthasar is to pointing us toward something more.
Let us in Prayer and in the Holy Spirit consider that Jesus united Himself – in God’s never ending Love – with the damned. Yes, with the damned, as God’s Love united God with us all in the Incarnation. Possible? Who is to say no?
Would the damned in some way need to repent? Yes. Consider that God’s infallibly efficacious Grace could, working within the creature’s intellect and free will, cause the free will to freely choose repentance and be justified. God never forces any creature.
I, myself, do choose to believe this development of Balthasar’s pointing to a possible Working of God in Jesus in the hell of the damned. Possible? Yes. Who is to say no?
