Does God forget our sins?

This question was asked and answered by the Apologist but I just wanted to add something to the answer from scripture. Hebrews 10:17 says “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” This is part of a reference to Jeremiah 31:34 “I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.” God cannot forgot since He knows all things, but He can choose not to remember. That may be a subtle difference, but I believe it makes all the difference in the world. God’s choice is not to remember the sins He has forgiven. We can make the same choice. If God chooses not to remember our sins, then maybe we can choose the same. We haven’t forgotten our sins, but we trust in God’s forgiveness and choose not to remember and dwell on the sins He has forgiven. God’s forgiveness doesn’t change history, but His choice not to remember what He has forgiven gives us a completely new slate.

He infinitely forgives, since he is infinitely merciful… but does he forget?? I sure hope he does. I myself need alot of forgetting on God’s part… We all need that break.

If I am not mistaken there is more to the indulgence than just making a confession on the feast of Divine Mercy. You must pray the Divine Mercy Novena, go to communion, make confession, and like all plenary indulgence be free from any attachment (habit) of sin, even venial. If you are interested in indulgences, which is what is attached to the Feast of Divine Mercy and frees us from the temporal punishment due to forgiven sin, read the little book " A Modern Guid to Indulgences: Rediscovering This Often Misinterpreted Teaching" by Edward Peters by Hillandbrand Books. You can get the same plenary indulgence just by praying the Rosary under certain condition. No need to wait until Divine Mercy Sunday! And remember if you can’t be free from any attachment to sin it doesn’t mean you don’t get anything. You get a partial indulgence which as merciful as God is it would surprise me if it isn’t worth 99%, but we will never know in this world.

Really, get the book. It’s great.

The simplest answer is we are supposing time in the Eternal Now. God has no yesterday nor tomorrow. So when we are in the state of grace, that is the now reality with God and there is no sin to be remembered.

Here’s a link for a variety of ways to receive a plenary indulgence. One confession is sufficient for a time (a week or so). But communion should be received and prayers recited for the intentions of the Pope (an Our Father and Hail Mary for instance) and then the “work”, which is listed in this link.

However most people see it as along the lines of infinity, which has a problem
because whether space is curved or not, Infinity is still contained within

In the culture of the day East referred to the the suns rising. So the real meaning of the text is a reference to the suns rising in the east as its setting in the west. We are no longer talking about distance, but as diametric opposiites, something that is unequivocably lock-stepped. If the sun was one minute closer to its rising without effecting or affecting the setting on either day eier side, well, mathematicians would tell all about it.

There is also a siginificance used in the Old Testament, people were to to travel to the east for their salvation, When Abram was told to travel West from the negev, maybe it was to set up the story for the exodus from Egypt. Not an important ingredient in this answer, but an absorbing study to do sometime.

The end result is as sure as 100% forgetfulness, but within the paradox mentioned above because forgetfulness is no longer needed, so effective has it been dealt with

GOD in His GREAT mercy, does everything possible to help us to realize that HE forgets (chooses not to remember) our sins. He even uses descriptive words that His poor uneducated children could understand.

I may never understand how far East to West really is, but I know it’s VERY far and that’s good enough for me.
