Does God forgive even before I repent?

I believe so; however, if we are in mortal sin we need to go to confession before we are reconciled.
 
God does not live from moment to moment like we do. He lives in the past, present, and future, all at once. He knows our ultimate end because He sees it as we see the present moment. However, we do live from moment to moment, and we are not forgiven in our time until we repent, etc.

sorry, let me correct my statement. We need to repent before we are reconciled, which should include confession unless somehow impossible.

We need to confess (agree with God that what we did is a sin) to be reconciled. This verse doesn’t say if we repent of our sins. It says if we confess our sins. Repentence and confession are different.

1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
 
To repent is to regret our sins. If we haven’t repented yet then we will likely repeat this offense. If we haven’t repented yet and don’t seek forgiveness why would God forgive us? We have to seek to find. God doesn’t instantly forgive us of any sin we commit that is why we need to seek forgiveness through confession. If we look at the words in confession, your sins ARE forgiven. If we were forgiven before we repent then then it would say “your sins WERE forgiven.”
 
i agree. confession is what grants us forgiveness. it’s not the same to “feel bad” about something than it is to follow the rules of a good confession. lets not forget the importance of performing the penance.

what about when people do hurtful things to us and don’t apologize or say sorry? Does that mean we don’t have to forgive them?

Any biblical evidence that Jesus gave someone forgiveness before the repentance?

Great question. If not sure if it’s ok if the answer is something like “No, he/she has not admitted his/her sin. He/she has not yet said I’m sorry. I’ll not forgive him/her.” 🤷

Good question. However, God, who is different from humans, cannot abide with sin. If we can be forgiven automatically of our sins, then why did Christ have to die? Why couldn’t God just forgive us automatically without the need of confession? This is because we need to repent and to “be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” We do not become perfect unless we see the error in our actions and repent.

You’re going to go to hell if you don’t repent of any mortal sins you commit. See 1 Cor. 6:9-10 for an example of this.

“1 Cor. 6:9
Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor homosexuals

nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Note there is no “pass” for those who think they are “saved.” This was written after Jesus died on the cross, not before.

So if you’re not a:
Fornicator, idolater, adulterer, prostitute, homosexual, thief, greedy, drunkard, slanderer, or robber I’ll be ok? anything else that you can think of. I want to make sure that I’m living according to your rules on this one.

“To repent is to regret”? Is that your Webster’s dictionary definition or is it a Biblical definition?

I guess you didn’t do that well in school when it came to reading comprehension, right?

Note in my post, where I said “for an example of this.” Do you know what that means? It doesn’t mean that this is a comprehensive list of what sins will send you to hell if you don’t repent of them before you die.
