Does God hate?

I had a conversation with a co-worker and I made the point that God does not hate and he said that God does hate certain things, for example He hates sin. I was thinking that since God is Love, He therefore can not hate. So I guess I’m wondering if hatred and Pure Love can co-exist?

I dont think God hates sin. I think He doesnt like it just like we as humans may not like something. But this is just my opinion. Good question though.
 
I think it would depend on how you define hate. If hate is wishing something did not have to be or the simple dislike of something/preferring greatly something else, then yes I think he does.
If hating something means seeking to destroy it then no, for if God so hated something it wouldn’t be.

“hatred” is a spiritual desire to destroy something…(animals cannot hate)…therefore…before things were allowed existence God did not “hate”. Hatred is a desire for righteousness, love and goodness to exist where there…exists temporary abominations.

Thus, God hates evil…as a natural condition of His Love.
 
Talking about God hating or God’s wrath is like talking about the hand of God or the face of God; it’s a poetic anthropomorphism to help man’s finite, physically-oriented minds understand something. They point to something truthful, but they’re not literal facts.

No. You are correct. God is pure Love.

God does hate sin. And of course pure love and hate can co-exist.

Here is how. Can God love us but hate the sin we commit? Of course he can.

The pope teaches love the sinner, hate the sin. There you go. both co-existing!😃

That’s kind of what I think about the Onan story. Did God literally kill him and how? People do what he did all the time and I’ve never heard of them dying over it. Allegories and mythologies exist in all religions. But then to he who is given much much is required. Onan was probably much closer to God than us in knowledge and such.
