Does God judge everyone using the same criteria?

Every sin has it’s own punishment. If two sins are exactly the same (two murders for example) then they will be judged the same. It is probably rare that any two people comitt the exact same sin though. It may look the same, but only to us who don’t know everything.

Everyone is judged by the same standard, but not everyone commits the same sins. One thief and another might steal the same thing, but for different reasons. So the sin was different, though it appeared the same to us.

No. He does not. Everyone is uniquely different, but I think the same morals apply to everyone, honestly.
 
Could it not be that homosexuals heed God’s call just the same as the prostitutes and tax collectors did during the time of Christ?

Do you mean homosexuals who persist in homosexual activity or those who choose celibacy?
 
I think it was Mother Angelica who said God calls us each to our own level of holiness. It is not right to compare ourselves with others which only leads to envy or pride. We only need to be faithful to what God has called us to. Did he give his Stewards all the same number of talents? Of course all sin is objectively wrong. Yet culpability can only be judged fairly by God. Not everyone has the same culpability.

Keep in mind that the Church does not consider being homosexual a sin. It might be contrary to proper natural order, ie. a disorder or sign that something has gone wrong in the natural order. But it is not considered sinful. It is only the homosexual act that is objectively sinful. Thus it is possible that some homosexuals heed God’s call and try to live their lives for God.

The tax collectors and sinners were offered mercy and forgiveness from Jesus instead of condemnation, unlike the Pharisees. That is why they heeded God’s call. They knew that they were sinful and accepted Jesus’s offer of mercy. Compare that with the Pharisees who were self righteous and did not think they needed forgiveness. Yet their hearts were without mercy towards their fellow man. And everything they did was to win the favor of men rather than God.

Thus it is possible that God judges people by the content of their heart, not who they sleep with.

What you may be suffering is from some sort of overkill where “preachers/evangelists” have preached the fear of hell or you just may be like one of those staunch egocentrics who will ‘do what they want, when they want, till they want to–God be forsaken!’

Ever noticed that Salvation is often the one goal that people seek to not want to train for?

Everything else people spend huge amounts of time, efforts, and capital in an attempt to achieve it–yet, when it comes to their Eternal Salvation, they want to rely on ignorance, “feel-good-theology,” and twisting God’s hand ('if God is Good/Just/Merciful, He would not “xyz”); how egocentric is that?

Problem is that God did not make anyone stupid, idiotic, intelligent, wise, tall, fat, slow, fast, a jackass, an assassin, a murderer, a liar, a cheat, a wimp, a steroid freak, a rapper, a country star, an athlete, a mindless twit, a boastful knucklehead, a dog/cat/horse/chicken/cow/monkey/pig whisperer…

So blame God and the Catholic Church if you must–but as the flawed expression, ‘keep it real!’

Robert, the difference is that Jesus Commanded that people ‘go, and sin no more.’

Homosexuals go on sinning and demand that God allows their sin as not-sin; a prostitute who sees the Light (Christ) yet remains/returns to prostitution is not in Fellowship with Christ and will surely not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

Ditto for every single one of us, including the religious:
18:21 ‘But if the wicked man renounces all the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and honest, he will certainly live; he will not die. 18:22 All the sins he committed will be forgotten from then on; he shall live because of the integrity he has practised. 18:23 What! Am I likely to take pleasure in the death of a wicked man – it is the Lord Yahweh who speaks – and not prefer to see him renounce his wickedness and live? 18:24 ‘But if the upright man renounces his integrity, commits sin, copies the wicked man and practises every kind of filth, is he to live? The problem we have is that man wants to dictate to God what is and is not righteousness–man thinks that he has the last say in determining if he sins against Yahweh God or not.

Even those who persist in the perverted act of homosexuality may repent before death and be admitted to Heaven before many of us self-proclaimed devout Catholics who fail to love God in the way that Christ commanded us to!
 
We hear of girls who are kidnapped by terrorists and forced to have sex with them. They do it against their will. If they become pregnant, they are sometimes forced to abort.

The only way out is to either get killed by a terrorist , or stay with him and hope for the best. Maybe someone will rescue her. (Often trying to run away won’t help. They may find her and kill her.)

She is technically breaking the commandments, but she is in a position that she can’t get out of. Sometimes there is no definitive way of considering the moral implications. If she died, how would God judge her?

Would He condemn her for not trying to resist? Or would He understand that she could not resist because she is surrounded by guns? If she happened to be a good Christian Catholic, she may risk her life to break away. But suppose she wasn’t a Christian, but she hated what was happening to her?

Just like the drug/alcohol (or any other type) addict can stop using and become a new person… however, practicing sin with the expectation that once you’ve had enough you will repent and gain Eternal Life is flawed and moronic–it’s like holding on to the fallacy that today’s expect life span is “x” for males and “x+” for females… anyone’s life span could be cut terribly short by natural events, accidents, man’s tendency to cause harm or malpractice; it is the same fallacy as the “type A/B” personalities–anyone can be conned, become extremely vicious, make idiotic choices and even commit suicide/murder regardless upon their ‘go getter/relaxed’ tags.

So while the possibilities do exist, the aim of the game (Christianity) is not to rely on the causality of finding oneself at the end of the rope, while hovering over hungry crocks and lions, and thinking ‘oh God, oh God, I don’t want to die.’

It depends on the translation of ‘porneia’. It can simply be ‘immorality’ or more specific like ‘idolatry’ or ‘harlotry’.

This is of course a reality for some–sadly, we cannot create a bridge to our sin/unrighteousness using this argument. In the US people go missing, that’s a fact of life. But ostentatious behavior (unrighteousness) out of one’s own choice cannot be measured in the same level as anyone who is coerced into such situations.

I’ll give an example: one day, while flagging a cab, I met a dancer; she was beautiful and just my type; she was very forward as she asked me to take the cab to the place where she was dancing; I felt the attraction and all through the drive I attempted to persuade her to give up the “art.” As beautiful as she was she could well be a runway model, our a stunning receptionist on a high end business or the best paid saleswoman in any field (yeah, she was that stunning); everything was met with a ‘nah.’ She explained that she made more in a few hours (she promised me that all she did was dance) than in a month in any of those other careers.

She took to me, and asked me to stay with her (dance)… finally, she asked that I pick her up.

Knowing me, I could not share her with anyone–even if I were to stay by her side during her dance; knowing God I could not be part of that lifestyle. Her choice was clear–she preferred that life to anything else.

So there are choices that we make/must make. Some times that power is taken from us (Christians and others persecuted and killed); but even that does not diminish our response to God’s Call.

Those girls that you’ve cited could well have prayed to God and offered themselves to Jesus–the ones that do not believe in God, have you not considered that the Holy Spirit can Touch even the hearts and minds of non-Believers?
