Does God know how he exists?

I’m not sure if this is the right section, but we accept that God has always existed even though we can’t imagine how (not that I could imagine how he could suddenly come into existence either).

Does God know how it’s possible that He was never created yet still exists?

God is omniscient but we aren’t! Only God knows whether He knows how He exists.

Omniscience does not mean knowing that which is intrinsically unknowable. We can only speculate about what may fall into that category but it’s not important and doesn’t serve any useful purpose…

This is sort of like an object – depicted in a painting – asking the painter: "Why are you not part of this painting? How can you NOT be part of this painting and still exist?! How can you have existed before everything else in this painting existed? How are you possible?

God knows all things. It is pointless for us to figure out what ALL the encompasses. Let us rather focus on those things that He has in His love and Mercy revealed to us through Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

God doesn’t think of such questions because Scripture makes it clear that God is existence itself: “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you”” (Exodus 3:14). What God meant by referring to himself as “I AM WHO I AM” was that he is existence itself. He has always existed, does exist and will continue to exist. His existence doesn’t depend upon anything else. So the thread title is really like asking “Does existence know it exists”?

Another reason why God doesn’t think of such questions is that it is a doctrine in mainstream Christianity that God’s essence is regarded as having “divine simplicity”. In other words, God is not made up of constitutient parts. He exists, and is therefore existence. He is good, and is therefore goodness. Not that he exists, and existence is an external characteristic attached to him; or that he is good, but good is an external characteristic attached to him. Therefore, it would be purposeless to ask how something exists if it is not made up of any parts - you can only ask how something exists or how it was created if it was made up of parts.

Since I’ve managed to figure out how God came into existence, God has no doubt done the same.

If the world was created by God - then its the model/design/blueprint for the characteristics and properties of existence.
