Does God love his Angels?

Is there any mention of God actually having a love for his Angels? One could argue He has to, as God is love, however, there may be some gray areas, like, for example–if God loves a cloud or raindrop.

Are Angels Gods’ beloved entities, or are they simply a means to an end?

Angels have intellect and will. Angels have the capacity to receive love, and God is Love.

Clouds and raindrops do not have intellect and will.

So the question is, what is your understanding of the word “love”?

I’m pretty sure God loves (or at least appreciates) clouds and raindrops too, seeing as he makes them.

God loves everything that He made. In the book of Wisdom it says that He loves all He has made in chapter 11. Also, in The story of Jona and the whale He tells Him he cares about the cattle who would be destroyed in Niniveh. One must assume that He loves His Angels who serve, worship, and love Him if He loves cattle who just go around doing their thing . God loves everything He made, and His love never changes. That is why He calls everything good.

They don’t really have free will in the same sense as humans though.

Because of their vast intellect they only had “one moment” of free will in which to decide whether to serve God or rebel. No angel that exists will “rebel” against God like us humans can.

Because they have been admitted to the beatific vision, not because they lack free will or only had “one moment” of free will. That isn’t what the Church teaches.
