Does God love Satan?

Anybody want to take a stab at why Aquinas says God loves all things created, but that we shouldn’t have charity/love towards demons?

So it’s not so much created by existing. BTW if they’re fallen angel they were created by God.

There is not such thing as personified evil. Satan is a creature created ex nihilo. What he does is evil, but in and of himself he has ontological goodness in the fact that he was created by God who is good. What he does is not morally good.

I disagree. A demon is an evil spirit.
Consult with a demonologist for more information.

There are evil beings and they are called demons.

No, there are not evil human beings. All humans have free will and while we are alive we always have the possiblity of repenting and reconciling ourselves to God.

Whereas a demon has been condemned to hell.

Because the demons are in hell for eternity. The angels (due to their superior intellects) were given ONE chance to choose Heaven over Hell. The demons chose Hell. Humans (due to our fallen nature and inferior intellects) are given a lifetime to resolve the same question - Heaven or Hell, God’s will or my will be done.

But Aquinas says he loves all things that existing things!

I’m not calling humans demons. There are are those among us who are evil insofar as their deeds are evil. That’s not to say that they cannot or will not repent, but we can say that people like Hitler and Stalin were evil and deserving of hell, although we cannot know their state of mind at death. Maybe they repented.

You are more than welcome to hold onto your point of view. You are failing to realize that evil is not a person or a spirit. One can do evil things but one cannot be ontologically evil. You are so free to keep your opinion which is not inline with the Traditions of the Church nor with good philosophy.

Well perhaps we should just entrust them to the Mercy of God.

Remember in the Bible, I think it is, that St. Michael would say nothing to Satan except “The Lord rebuke you.” Leave them to God and refrain from passing judgement on them or hurling insults on them.

How on earth can we dare to presume to say that other people are evil and deserve Hell? This is certainly not our place. We are “To Judge not…” This is for God to say and to judge others, and not us.

Oh it say in the Nicene Creed - “He will come again to judge the living and the dead.” That is Jesus, and it is to Him alone that will be Judge of all humankind.

First off, it is not possible to love all existing things. A stone exists but it is not possible to love a stone. And I’m not sure what good it would do to “love” Satan and the demons. They have been judged. They chose Hell for eternity. They cannot be saved and will never be with God.

In the same manner that a man loves a sculpture, God loves all the things he has made, stones included (Wisdom 11:25).

But there is another form by which God loves all things, and that is by giving them being, causing them to exist and preserving them in existence. It is his love that is the cause of their being, which is a good in itself. In this sense it is that he loves all things, stones and Satan/demons included.

Aquinas doesn’t say that. Aquinas says that we can’t love a demon with charity in the sense of friendship, but we can love them in charity insofar as they exist for the glory of God. This love falls under the same heading as God “loving them into existence”.

the question of this thread, does god love satan?, is something that i asked too, when i was much younger. also, i asked, will god ever redeem satan, perhaps at the end of time?

nowadays, i believe god hates satan, because it states in the bible that god hates evil in humans, so why shouldn’t he hate the evil that satan perpetuates.
