Does God love the devil?

My nine year old son asked me yesterday. If Lucifer was created as a beautiful angel, God would have loved him, and doesn’t change – just as I would not stop loving my children if they went bad. However, the devil has set himself up to be God’s enemy, and is pure evil, so how could God love that? Hmmm…
