Does God punish mentally ill people?

Hello, I have a question about mentally ill people. When someone who has been diagnosed with mental chronic mental commits a sin, does God send him to hell when he dies? The person may not believe what he/she has done is a sin.

We are all judged according to the free choices that we make. Someone who has a mental illness will obviously have limitations on their freedom to make certain choices but that doesn’t mean that they have no free will whatsoever. The areas of their free will that are affected by a mental illness would not be free choices and therefore couldn’t be sins. But there would be some areas of their free will that are not affected or completely affected and they would be judged on those choices and whether they were repentant of any wrong choices.
We need to be careful not to dehumanize people who have mental illnesses. Such individuals are still capable of great choices for love and goodness.
