Does God save sinners apart from the person and work of Jesus Christ?

I’m curious about your response to a post I made in a thread that has now been closed.

It sort of percolated through the church, and the Pope, who — significantly — was an Augustinian, picked it up And then a decade later, it ended up in the catechism. And I responded: How is this possible when the current CCC came out in 1994?

I’m not sure, but the article came from Christianity Today which is a mainstream Evangelical magazine. Maybe that part was wrong in the article. However, ECT really interests me. I’ll try to find that article again. We all know this article is written from a Protestant perspective.
