i wonder if God speaks to us in dreams.

Recently, following a day of some pretty major goof ups and sins, I fell asleep and dreamed that I was wading in the shallow waters at a beach. Suddenly I lost my bearings and a horrific whirlpool swept me far from the shore.

I washed up in some small town and found my way to what I think was a visitor’s center where i was taken to the basement which - bizarrely - was a gateway to hell. People and animals were completely immobilized on conveyor belts which dumped into what looked like a giant furnace but was actually a portal to fiery Gehenna. I remember distinctly seeing a man on the conveyor belt who was alive but couldn’t move and behind him there was snake.

Does God speak to us in dreams? Even if the dream was a subconscious manifestation of guilt and anxiety, could this be God prodding me unconsciously?

I know some very powerful experiences can happen in a dream. Look up the biography of St. Maria Goretti. Her attacker was changed forever after he had his dream.

Dreams are usually just the editing floor of our heads, but God can indeed use them. This occurs not only in Genesis (with Joseph), Daniel, and the Gospels, but in Saint history with such persons as Saint Don Bosco.

Absolutely! I had some dreams of sorts when I turned my back on the church. It was of evil/demons but even they served God’s purpose (without them realising that is the effect they would have on me) as I have no doubts in my mind through God’s grace he allowed me glimpses in to what I was heading towards and it was used to turn me away from that life (as best I can manage). God works in such wonderful and amazing ways, and it’s funny to think how he can even turn sin around using beings/people who don’t even want to do his work. He is so good 😃

I once dreamed of an almighty rushing river that scared me, but somehow found an old tributary that had an ancient path next to it. I was too cowardly to follow the ancient path at the time, and the river overwhelmed me. I now believe the dream was part of God’s invitation to me to the Catholic church, the ancient path, but that I let the cares and fears of the world and Protestantism overwhelm me. Thank God the path still exists in recurrences of this dream - and in reality!

Maybe but most dreams are simply dreams.

Yes, yes He does. The author of Acts quotes from the prophet Joel:

“And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord,) I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.” Acts 2:17

When you consider that all that happens to us is at minimum the permissive will of God, He can use even guilt or pastrami based dreams to accomplish His own good purpose in our lives.

He absolutely does, I have had a few dreams recently that fit into this category, some may say, how can you know it was not just a regular dream, but when you have one, you just know… its MUCH different, the hard part Im having is trying to figure out what God meant by some of the dreams.

What about having 4 dreams with the same topic (the whole world - the one that I see- is flooded violently) in 1-2 weeks and in between those one about Earth being bombarded by meteors (me being the protagonist and running around trying to save myself) ? Had those last winter. And before anybody mentions this - I didn’t watch any movie or read anything about those kind of things.
Maybe hyperactive imagination on my part 🤷

Yes. I have had a dream oddly come true. The dream was a warning. The people God warned me about revealed themselves to be unkind. I was not particularly close to God but it did wake up me.

Didnt God tell us many people would have ‘visions’ right before he came again?

I dont think we have to worry about flooding again, but meteor or asteroid collision I could see, NASA even admits if a large one was tracked to hit us, they would not have much warning and I doubt they would tell the public right away either.

But then again, the bible talks about the end times and all the things that are going to happen, if an asteroid hits the planet, there would not be anyone left here, so that part could never be fulfilled…(unless…well, I dont want to even think about that)

I thought that maybe they reflect some kind of anxiety…but what? I’ve had very suggestive dreams when anxious about something, but nothing so vague and violent.
Your point of view is interesting . I’ve had 2 more dreams about water, but not necessarily flooding. In one I’m drowning in ocean crystal clear water and in the other I see heavy rain that floods only our town. Then something appears and everything is back to normal. Weird 🤷

That is interesting.

In order for all the bible prophecy to be fulfilled, there has to be people here on earth, a major event, asteroid, flooding, would throw a wrench into that…I wondered though, if maybe God would send another global killer (like the flood) to start over AGAIN, just like he did in Noahs time.

However, I think such a thing would be mentioned in the bible if it was going to happen, and the bible does say the world will be it was in Noahs time when he comes back, says nothing about starting over again.

The world will not start over again in the sense of biological human life; the “new start” will be everlasting life.

There will also not be another all-consuming flood, as was said to Noah himself.

There could however, be minor flooding as part of the “chastisements”. Our LORD himself said that there would be “anguish at the roaring of the sea and the waves.”

Analyze the Bible’s accounts of dream revelations: It seems to me the person always knows it was a message from God. The Bible does not record people wondering whether it was a divine revelation.

Hence if you’re not sure it was divine revelation, then it wasn’t.

Yes, this is my belief too, Ive had 3 such dreams and trust me…you just know…they are much different than a regular dream.

Absolutely He does!

15In a dream, a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber on their beds, 16He uncovers their ears at that time and terrifies them with warnings, 17in order to turn a person from his actions and suppress his pride. 18God spares his soul from the Pit, his life from crossing the river of death. 19A person may be disciplined on his bed with pain and constant distress in his bones, Job 33

God works through our dreams to bypass our waking minds, which are sometimes not paying attention. He wants to turn us aside from the ways that separate us from Him.

A numinious dream, where one encounters the Divine, is a very different experience, like the angel coming to Joseph and telling him to flee.

But God still speaks through “everyday” dreams, as the scripture passages above indicate. Messages from God can come through very “everyday” things, like people telling us things, reading something that we realize is applies to us, listening to the radio and having an insight. These are opportunties for the Spirit to lead us.
