Does the bible not say that we are son’s of God, then does God speake to His children.
That is not the point though the question is how are we His children listening? is it by our human ears or buy the spirit of God in us?

the ordinary way God speaks to humankind is through the Church, and his Revelation, completed in the person of Jesus Christ, is preserved and transmitted without error in her Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, through the protection of the Holy Spirit, in the preaching and teaching office of the Church and through celebration of the Christian mysteries.

certain indviduals may at times receive private revelations in a more direct manner, but their veracity must always be discerned, sometimes over many years, with the guidance of spiritual directors and ultimately by the bishops.

If he doesn’t bang goes my reason for being Christian!

Long story but age 10, during a time of terrible personal crisis, an odd voice, a lot like my father’s - but a lot nicer and more understanding, starting telling me odds things including events a year in advance. Not often but a strange lifeline when I was being throughly screwed up. Yeah, I did think I was mad sometimes!

Same voice led me to a prayer group for teenagers and told me to dedicate my life to Christ at age 13.

I’m now 36 and orthodox Catholic - though not, loosely speaking, a Traditionlist as in one who loves Latin!

I, er, have a spiritual director! No, I do not hear words from God every week! But, over the long years, I do think we listen too little and tend to plough ahead with our plans with out asking God for His. My prayer time is at least 30% listening.

Also, as persecution builds up (I’m from the UK) I think GOd’s gonna have to speak more directly to people 'cause the way the West is going, the priests are gonna be arrested!

Ok Ithink that God speaks to His children otherwise we wouldn’t be His children don’t you think? or is that abserd in this day and age? I mean why would God speak t us when all there seems to be is agony and sorrow?

Yes I do believe God speaks personally to His children of the world. Everytime the sun rises and everytime it sets He speaks in the wonder of His creation. Everytime a bird soars the skies every time the tide goes in and out at sea, everytime a flower opens, everytime the wind blows or the rains come. I believe the kindness and love of people and the immense wonder of their form and creation is a clear image and likeness of God and He speaks to us of Himself through the grace operating in others. I believe the Holy Spirit calls and guides people bestowing His gifts upon them and God speaks to His children through this.

Each Catholic is a sign to the world of God and His voice, each Priest and Religious Sister is a sign to the world of God and His voice. The Church and her precepts and tradition are a clear sign of God’s voice and its endurance throughout the ages is a clear sign of God’s eternal covenant with her and her ultimate destination as the Bride of Christ Jesus.

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict 16th, when he speaks to the flock is a sign of God’s voice and it grieves me greatly when he is opposed and ignored.

I also do believe that God does sometimes speak directly to souls and these true manifestations of God’s work amongst men are to be found in the true and approved miraculous lives of the Saints.

The Sacraments are where a soul may clearly and directly encounter the voice of our Living God in Christ Jesus.

God speaks very clearly in His Word. A close relationship with Sacred Scripture is where a soul may most profoundly hear the voice of God and may receive Counsel and solace, guidance and instruction on a daily basis relevant to each persons life. Internalising the Gospels we are to become by the grace of God a Living Gospel in the world with the Living Prayer of our lives.

Last night after reading the Sacred Scripture my daughter saw me kiss the closed Sacred Scripture, she asked me why I did that, I said ‘Because it is Jesus’.

I have a deep love of Sacred Scripture and read it every day, the voice of Jesus is therein for all to hear.

God reveals Himself in so many ways and we are to seek as we are drawn and we will see, hear and find Him.

At present time I am listening to St Theresers “I surrender all” by JohnTalbert and reading your workds from your heart reasure me so much.
Godbless.

Good question. I often read or hear that many saints said we should set time apart to pray and to listen. That we need moments in our life of quietness so that we can listen to God.

I hope someone can explain that more.

Jesus tells us inthe bible that they hear but don’t hear to me this relates to those who have their minds on the world.
For instance I had an uncle who was such a beautiful person, he read the bible some four times and then told me that he couldn’t understand it.
No person can understand the bible unless they have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide them.
Praying I think is speaking to God the same way that we speak to each other.
What do you think?

God bless

It is quite different.

When you speak to me, I know you speak to me. When I am familiar with your voice, I can recognize you speaking on the phone, accross the street, or in another room without seeing you face-to-face.

When God speaks to me, I may and may not know that He does. More praying and discerning will help me recognize it is He who speaks to me; it is He who wants me to do certain things.

That doesn’t mean I know for sure it is He who speaks to me every time. Sometimes, it is the voice of the Devil as well.

To be safe, I follow what the Church teaches. Whether God speaks to me or I to Him, following the Churh’s teachings is safer.

How i see God is that He wants us to build in a relationship, to me a relationship is one where both people can see, feel, hear and acknowledge each others part in the relationship.
For me,… God gives me instruction, ALL bassed upon the word of God in the bible. But instruction is not the end. God can speak to us one to one and loud and clear if we are not listening or other wise engaged and He needs something done ( I have had this happen). The point is, do we minimise God’s ways through thinking like we humans do, forgetting that we are limited by humanness where God is not in His ability to have a relationship how He wants.

Praying is a loving conversation between friends. You must be more at ease with God than you are with your closest of friends and talk to Him intimately.

Yes you are right when you say it is no different than you and I speaking, but it is more intimate between you and your Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God the Father.

Are we to be “children of the world”? Tim
I never thought about this question, Tim.
We are not, but I have failed to prove it many times. It is frustrating when I allow that to happen.

Don’t exclude the Traditions.
You need to explain what you meen by traditions when I know that the traditions come from the bible and NOTHING on earth is true unless it comes from the work of God.

God wrote that we are made to His likeness, is this right in your eyes?
God is the WORD and the WORD was made flesh?
We are made to God’s likeness?
Jesus tells us that we are to come to Him as little children?
That the Kingdome is for those little children?
Unless we are like little children then we cannot come to the kingdom of God?

All of these writings above come from the Bible do you agree?
Then if Jesus tells us we have to be like “little children” then, we must be little children of the WORD because the WORD was made flesh and the WORD IS GOD. And be it a little word we are made to the likeness of God. Which we know is truth.

I don’t question that we are meant to be children of God or that we are made in His likeness or that Jesus is the Word made flesh. I question if we are to be children of this world. I don’t consider myself part of this world anymore or want to be. That maybe faulty thinking, but I’ve seen the blanket of sin that covers the world as a collective and avoid it. People, I don’t avoid individually or even in well intended groups, such as church. But as a whole, I don’t trust the sin that lies in this world. I’m not judging the world, but stating a fact that no man is without sin in this world today and I know how it works as a collective entity to destroy what is holy and grace filled. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I wish I was.

John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

John 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil.

John 8:23 And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.

John 12:25 Itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal.

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of the world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Thats just a few things that John had to say about the world. The world is mentioned 201 times in the New Testament. Some about being the light of this world, some ,it seems, calling us out of this world

Top I agree with you and accept that yes you are right the bible tells us this. We are to be in yes in the world NOT of the world.

I realised that I had written this and it is not right it should read “does God speak to we children in the world”? But I thought that it might not make sence. Yes you are right. I apologise for inconveniencing.

blessedstar that was really beautiful and true.

God has spoken to me in the circumstances in my life, expressed His will, and how sweet it is. When I listen my gut intuition matches in harmony with the unfolding of His will for me and I have peace.

I am particularly close to God right now in the mystery of the Scourging at the Pillar, as I go through cancer treatment. It is like a Scourging. My sweet Jesus and I are united in our suffering, his moment transcending through time and uniting with my moment of scourging in this current phase of my life, offered up in prayer. Happy face smiley positive thinking Christians don’t understand this at all…but God is unafraid of the whole range of human experience, because He has been through it…and I am not imagining myself abandoned by God in this, my third cancer, because He is Emmanuel, God with us. May His holy name be praised today, tomorrow, and forever more!!! 👍

I am very sorry you are suffering cancer for a third time. Three great crosses like this I can only admire you and think to myself you must be a saint offering three great crosses to God, one for the Son, one for the Spirit and one for the Father.

You are so close to Jesus and He is Emmanuel, intimately carrying your cross with you.

Your post is beautiful and I can’t think of a word to say to you because you are so in love with Jesus and His Cross and so intimately united to Him in His Passion. God is speaking in you to all of us.

I will keep you and your loved ones in the Living Prayer of my life always and the Kindness and Love of Jesus to you and those you love.

:hug3: I hope you’ll permit me to send you a hug of Christian affection as appropriate between brothers and sisters.🙂
