Does God talk to you? And how?

Churches usually refer to a parish church or cathedral that was set up so people would have a regular place to go to Mass, confession, receive other sacraments in, on a regular basis.

A shrine is to commemorate Jesus or some special saint. It might be some huge place like Fatima that contains a church, or it could be some little place that just has a prayer chapel and statues. Shrines aren’t necessarily open every day and they may or may not have Masses regularly, and they don’t have a parish, they usually have a lot of pilgrims and tourists passing through.

Out of curiosity…is a shrine - different - from a church ?
Hi Seagull,

A shrine is usually a special place that has been designated for a particular devotion. It can be a church or a basilica, for example.

Here is a link to an article from the Catholic Education Resource Center that explains things in a bit more detail, if anyone would be interested in taking a look at it:

Cool web-site ! I have to favorite that one !
I did hear how some people make a certain room in their house - a shrine. 💝

" A shrine is a church or other sacred place
where a relic is preserved,

or - where an apparition has taken place,

or - an historical event of faith has taken place,

A shrine may also be a place designated to foster a belief or devotion "

You heard a voice in your head saying approximately 7 words (a short sentence) that was very “profound”, yet you cannot remember the exact words?

Dont forget to test those voices or spirits, not every voice is from God.

Strange i know.

Been thinking of my faith and my daily struggles etc etc and was quiet and in popped this voice in my head! I cant say what the words were exactly as i was totally shocked by the experience. Its like it is clouded in my mind when i try to remember the exact words. But, i got the gist of it. I understand what was meant.

I truly hope it was God. No! I DO BELIEVE IT WAS GOD!

At that point if might be useful to see if there is a mental health problem.

Easy answer for some i guess Kev. For me, its faith. Its belief. Its truly believing it may very well be God helping me through this extremely tough time in my life.

I would love to physically hear his voice but I only feel him through strange coincidences that have happened.

How do you distinguish His voice from an adaptation of your own mental voice?

Yes, He does. A few months ago, I was in a hotel and about to go to sleep, when I heard the Lord say to me “No, don’t sleep now. I want you to pray for unity in the Church”. A few weeks ago, I asked the Lord where I should eat and He said Subway. He speaks to me pretty much whenever I call on Him. Rarely has He been silent when I ask Him about something.

I’ve only ever heard Jesus, though; I’ve never heard the Father or the Holy Spirit. It’s not an audible voice, it’s more like telepathy. He puts certain thoughts into my head. He sounds sweet, but also authoritative. 🙂

Your post is riddled with problems. How would you distinguish between the voice of Jesus, the Father, or the Holy Spirit? You say its not an audible voice but “sounds sweet”. Are you making this up?

No, I swear I’m not making it up. If it was the Father or Holy Spirit talking to me, I would just ask God which Person it is that’s talking to me. It’s simple.

1 john 4 answers that mental issue of yours and when Jesus was in the wilderness and being tempted by satan(which knowing from your posts Jesus also God himself would be considered “mentally ill”) He used scripture to fight satan off.

I don’t get a big booming God voice from the clouds, or a bush bursting into flames, but I don’t need that.
One day, I was driving through my city. I was going through rough patch in life. I do send my prayers out to the universe in my crazy agnostic way. So I am saying, as I am driving along, “Good Lord, please throw me a line. Let me know I am not alone in these challenges I am facing.” Right then I pull up to a busy intersection and look out my window to the sidewalk to the right of me and guess what is sitting right there. A burning bush!!! I kid you not. It was really more of a burning shrub, but you get the idea. Some guy was running out from the bank across the parking lot with a bucket of water. I am not sure what the explanation was, but I like to think it doesn’t matter why it was burning, but just that it was burning right as I pulled up. It was so random. I have to tell you, it did send some shivers up my spine. I really do like to believe there is a God of some sort out there.

Some people have the gift of being able to discern spirits.

Some people may be able to hear or see things that others may not be able to experience.

Some of our saints had this ability, for example.

It’s something that should be discussed with a Spiritual Director, though.

Someone can start out by talking to their Pastor, and going to him for help and guidance.
