How can God permit evil that flows from divine justice? (To write:…‘flows from…’ indicates ‘…comes directly from…’.). 🤷

Also, if God punished us according to our sins, we would all already be dead.
Permission (only) flows from justice, which includes freedom. Evil is negation of God, and God in His Love (providence, justice, and all you can include in Love) made us free to do things contrary to His will. But it is not his will for us to die.

And Judgement will come, don’t haste it. Read once more Peter’s epistles about the mercy of God. 🙂

👍 Permission of freedom has already flowed from divine justice.

👍 Evil itself does not flow directly from divine justice. Evil is the result of a sinful act/s committed with freewill - ( a freedom that was permitted by God in Love at the Beginning).

👍 God’s WILL is for us to join Him in Heaven.

One could say that sin is an extremely ungrateful act - a rebellion.
And Judgement will come, don’t haste it. Read once more Peter’s epistles about the mercy of God. 🙂

…it could be said that With Christ, God’s mercy outweighs His justice(?).

…or it could be said, that we misinterpret what ‘mercy’ or ‘justice’ means(?).

…or maybe we make a mistake putting a limit on God’s mercy (?).

…God won’t be outdone in generosity.

I don’t think so. God being infinite, his justice and mercy are equal and should be understood together always. Because there is justice, it is possible to be mercyful. Because there is mercy, justice can be fully done. And surely justice doesn’t mean execution nor mercy mean tolerance of sin.
God’s mercy is limitless, but it works on our imperfection, so once we are judged, the time of repentence is over, and mercy isn’t needed anymore, but rightousness and justice. My thoughts

I appreciate your thoughts so not just going to respond for the sake of it but I’m going to think about it and do some research. 🙂

Hello everybody,

I have a question and i can’t seem to find an answer.

It is known that God is love, And as such God cannot will death, and death is a cause of sin.

However, it is seen in the old testament that many times either directly or indirectly God has killed. (Such as the flood)

How can a God that is LOVE will death?

THanks in advance
Death came about because of the Fall, which was nothing to do with God’s will. God now is able to take death and bring about goodness, as is His Way.

Excellent point underlined.

I think the danger here, despite your ability to reason is, putting a cap on, a boundary, on the attributes of God. Reason does point to God but nothing does or can in life fully explain the Mystery of God. Which is why I said that we cannot know or understand fully the mercy and justice of God and what those attributes really mean. We can in an earthly way to some degree while we are here but eternal love is that of Heaven when we see Him face to face. Yet the mercy and justice of God; our faith and hope in Him - what are they, to us, then? Just eternal love.

You say that at some point mercy is needed then when forgiven we only need justice etc… Mercy, is always needed. It is thanks to the mercy of God that all of life is held in existence. If God was to take back His mercy the whole of existence and the universe would be in serious trouble. Despite after confession where sins are washed whiter than snow, and forgotten, if we were absolutely perfect afterwards we would ascend. Justice, is God not going back on a promise, being the only one that can promise: the promise of our salvation, the promise of forgiveness and companionship - ultimately, the promise of seeing Him face to face. Otherwise, God’s love for us might be dependent on what we do. His mercy works because He is forgiving, His justice works because God does not lie. Even if we sin God still loves us. Even when we’re not sinning and been to confession we are still broken, we are still imperfect. It is only God who can complete us.

If we were to know the full mercy of God in this life we would die with a broken heart. If we were to know justice without mercy humanity would cease to exist because it would crumble in shame at our own ingratitude (I am guessing here). No one can understand the mystery of God and it is not wise to try explaining the mysteries of God with earthly examples as they just don’t come close.

In other words, we can’t measure Love Himself.

🙂

God bless.
