Adult males are required to participate in compulsory military training.Strange, my godfather is Swiss and he doesn’t have a gun and this is the first I’ve ever heard of Swiss people getting weapons. I know that when a person joins the MILITARY he or she is in charge of a weapon. Also approximately 300 deaths per year involve the use of Swiss army guns, mostly suicides and family murders.
.
Even the Nazis did not want to take on an armed Switzerland. They went after easier targets.Adult males are required to participate in compulsory military training.
At the end of the training, each Swiss male is given a NATO FAL Assault rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition with instructions to keep them at home.
Of course the Greens are looking to overturn this long standing policy.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)I just think that guns shouldn’t be part of a Christian life or part of a Christian family. …and guns are bad.
Are you somehow under the impression that someone killed with a gun is some how ‘more dead’ than someone that is killed by other means? I assure you that is not the case. Someone who loses a family member because they were brutally stabbed to death faces the same lose as if that person was brutally shot to dead. Therefore, instead of looking at gun-related deaths, let’s look look at all homicides. The gun-related deaths per 100,000 people in 1994 by country were as follows:
U.S.A. 14.24
Brazil 12.95
Mexico 12.69
Estonia 12.26
Argentina 8.93
Northern Ireland 6.63
Finland 6.46
Switzerland 5.31
France 5.15
Canada 4.31
Norway 3.82
Austria 3.70
Portugal 3.20
Israel 2.91
Belgium 2.90
Australia 2.65
Slovenia 2.60
Italy 2.44
New Zealand 2.38
Denmark 2.09
Sweden 1.92
Kuwait 1.84
Greece 1.29
Germany 1.24
Hungary 1.11
Ireland 0.97
Spain 0.78
Netherlands 0.70
Scotland 0.54
England and Wales 0.41
Taiwan 0.37
Singapore 0.21
Mauritius 0.19
Hong Kong 0.14
South Korea 0.12
Japan 0.05
It is also VERY safe to say that overall deaths are MUCH higher in places where guns are restricted. The reason for this is obvious. Guns are also used for defensive purposes. A elderly man in a wheelchair is now in equal or superior footing against a younger & stronger attacker. In any case it is VERY safe to say that gun deaths are MUCH higher in countries were guns are allowed. The reason for this is obvious…guns are dangerous and guns can kill. There is no question about it.
That is totally wrong and study after study has proven it to be wrong. Less deaths happen in places where guns are accessable because people have a means to defend themselves. To argue that guns cause a safer enviroment is like arguing that the earth is flat or the sun is blue or whatever. The simple truth is that guns do kill and that more deaths happen in places were guns are accessable.
Your example is flawed because abortions accomplish only one thing – taking the life of an unborn child. Where as, guns can either illegally take an innocent life or protect an innocent life depending on how they are used. Some one who wishes to take a life does not need a gun to do so but someone who wishes to defend their life or that of a loved one, is placed on equal footing if they have a gun even if faced with a bigger & stronger attacker. To take an example, there are more abortions done in countries were abortion is allowed. There are for example more abortions in Sweden than there are in Ireland due to the simple reason that Ireland does not allow abortions. Now there are still Irish women that manage to abort their babies, the same way as there are still some Swedes that manage to get hold of guns and kill people. But there is no denying that fewer abortions are made in countries that ban abortion
You are arguing two different things here as if they were the same thing and they are not. The facts are:and there is no denying that fewer gun related crimes or accidents are done in countries that don;t allow guns.
I seem to recall Jesus saying, “Cast the beam out of your own eye” before you remove the mote from someone else’s eye.As I said in a previous post, I’m not defending Sweden. Sweden isn’t even a Christian country. I do think God is punishing Sweden for its sins. I’m almost scared of living here because there is so much sin! Abortion, pornography etc. But I don’t think that a Christian person should own a gun. I can understand if a military person has a gun and uses the gun when his or her country is at war. But don’t bring the gun in to your home. Don’t bring it close to your children. And no I don’t agree with you that being a Christian equals being an American. Christianity doesn’t have anything to do with nationality. And just because you happen to be older than me does not mean that you’re right. That you try to prove your point by stating your age just proves that you are running out of better arguments. Sorry if that upset you but your rather aggressive attitude is starting to upset me.
That’s certainly what happened in Washington, D.C., isn’t it?Gun control does not prevent gun crime. If we make having guns illegal, only theifs and crooks will have them.
And Chicago too. That’s certainly what happened in Washington, D.C., isn’t it?![]()
As I have said, I have no objection with laws that would eliminate guns entirely – as long as I am the last person to give up his gun.And Chicago too.
Fr Pfleger had to march all the way to Riverdale, IL to find a gun shop because they are illegal in the city! Then he went on his infamous tirade that guns are easily accessible in Illinois. PLEASE DON’T BELIEVE THAT, and least they are not easily accessible to HONEST people. Illinois has a Firearms Owners I.D. system, which is a fee based system that takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks to process a background check and then issues you an I.D. card. Only after you pay your money, pass your background check, and then get your card in the mail can you go into a gun store to buy a gun. And you are still subject to various waiting periods and local gun restrictions, and even outright bans on guns . . . like in Chicago where handguns are not permitted. But that doesn’t stop folks like Fr Pfleger from claiming that they are too easy to get. Heck he wants more restrictions added to a state that the Brady Campaign already suggests is one of the “role model” states in the union for restrictive gun controls.
Oh and then a few days after the rally and the infamous speechifying by Fr Pfleger there was a drive-by shooting with illegal weapons! Sure, guns are easy for the criminals to get. But honest folks have to wait a month or more to get them, and then may not even be allowed to get the type they desire/need.
Yup, I think gun control works really well. Especially if you hold 2 hands on the gun to keep it steady while you aim at your target.
Good pointAnd Chicago too.
