I have been offered a job teaching a series of holiday-themed crafting classes. One of these classes would be a Halloween “spooky tree” class. May I teach this class or does it promote the occult?

Halloween is, believe it or not, a Christian holiday. The word Halloween is a contraction for “All Hallows Eve” and is the vigil for All Saints Day on November 1. Secular culture has added on its own customs and lore to the day, as it has done with Christmas and Easter. Just as it is okay to have Santa and a Christmas tree at Christmas, so it is okay to have a jack o’lantern or “spooky tree” at Halloween.
