In the great spiritual classic Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence the author counsels us to pray like this: Lord either give me this thing I so ardently desire so I will be happy, or make me so happy without it that I will no longer desire it, for it doesn’t matter how I’m happy.

I don’t like the way it sounds…you are pretty much demanding God give you something…if you added “if it is Your will.” at the end, it would be more respectful. But that’s just me…

To trust in God’s will is the “secret of happiness and content"

We may never achieve happiness on earth, it comes at the moment of physical death for us if we have sought His will. Therefore, do not strive to be happy, strive to do His will.
