Does it matter who is more HOLY?

Well Orangeman, It seems you have your answer. Almost to a person, the RC’s here have the OPINION that their church is entitled to being top dog of the holies while they are so gracious to recall that individuals within it might not be. It seems pharoah has “hardened their hearts.” Sometimes I think it reflects more on needing to convince themselves with all continually yelling the same refrain…plug your ears and repeat the mantra…only our Church is holy, only our church is holy.
Did you not read my post?

So you think I might be right? Thats OK with me…🙂
Sure, you might be right. And you might be wrong.

I think of the schism as a divorce … neither party is 100% innocent or 100% guilty.

Obviously what is wrong with a divorce is its presence, the EO’s proper place is back in the Catholic family, fully. :sad_yes:

Yes, then perhaps they can change it from a divorce to an annulment. 😉

:bigyikes:
lol, Mickey! 😉

Seriously, I’m really not trying to bait anyone and hope it isn’t coming across that way - if so, I apologize (it is Great Lent, after all! :)).

But I don’t think my opinion (about the Great Schism being more like a divorce between equals) is an unreasonable one. When you read the history of how the whole thing played out, it does seem like a marital spat that just spiraled wayyyy out of control.

Yes. Perhaps it was more like that at the beginning. But the West began adding doctrines after the split and it widened the gap.

But then that is for another thread. 🙂

Even in secular humanity there are cases of divorced couples forgiving and reconciling and returning to the married state.

Indeed! And I’m sure it will be a good one! 😃

Do I really have to explain that I and other Non RC’s are well aware of what your church tells you to believe? We don’t agree, so if we are going to talk about being holier than thou, I suspect that those who claim their church is by definition, are exactly what the OP had in mind.
I think you confuse “what the church tells you to believe” with what the Magisterium of the Church teaches as guide by the Holy Spirit. There is only one truth, and that is the truth as laid down by our Savior. As in John 6 some truths are hard to swallow, no pun intended, and that is why there are so many different denominations in the Protestant realm. There are some truths that are to hard for Protestants to accept, so like in John 6 you have gone your own way grumbled among yourselves.
Being a Catholic is being willing to accept the truth and to put that truth into practice every day of our lives. If living the faith of the CC that is based upon truth, brings us some small graces from God, and we attain some level of holiness then we are better for it. It does not mean we are better that anyone else. Absolutely Not. The fact is that we are all sinners who at times can loose some of the holiness we may have been granted, and because of the truths, we the CC have the Sacraments to redirect our lives back to the path of truth which may enable us to earn that small grace back into our lives. This post is not intended to offend, just one mans opinion.

I think Catholics are lazier than most other Protestants. (I’m a Catholic). Protestants seem more involved with Bible studies and helping the poor and with people in thier own churches. Catholics mostly just go to Mass on Holy obligation days, go to confession once in a while, pray the rosary once in a while and donate in the little envelopes to different causes, and call it good.🙂
**YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!**This is how ignorance of your faith starts, by not knowing anything about it. Protestants are not more involved in bible studies. In fact, the Mass talks the entire time about Scripture while the Protestants tend to be more of a motivational speakers (Joel Osteen etc…) Catholic charities and the **thousands **of missionaries are all around the world. the Knights of Columbus has over 1 Million members helping the poor. And that is just ONE organization. I suggest you read and research your own faith before you can come to any conclusions about any others. And remember, Jesus Christ is the most important in which he founded his Catholic church and that’s all you should care about.

This same God founded One Church, breathed the Holy Spirit into it, and promised to remain with it, to guide and protect it until the end of time. You’d think people would be glad of that.
Instead we get this strange ‘slap in Gods face’, as if we were doing something wrong, as if God was wrong founding a Church.
Ahh but your thoughts are not God’s thoughts, and it is dangerous to claim that God resides no where but where you go. Your interpretation is yours to believe, however, there are significantly other interpretations held by millions of others who disagree. And in the end, God will where he wills.

You confuse what you believe with what necessarily is, and then get riled when others don’t agree. No one on this side is the least confused about what you BELIEVE. Why do you continually have to repeat it ad nauseum? That will not make it demonstrably true no matter how times you say it, though perhaps it helps reassure you.

All baptized persons are a part of the Body of Christ, and therefore belong in some way (whether they acknowledge it or not) to the Catholic Church. Our prayer is for all who profess Christ to be one as He and the Father are one (His prayer in John).
Agreed, all of Christendom is united in the catholic Church.

Hmm. I’ve read countless stories of converts to Catholicism from Evangelical Protestantism (Scott Hahn, Thomas Howard, et al) who spoke with admiration of the deep devotion that those in their churches had for the Scriptures. In fact, it was their study of the Scriptures in those churches which led them to the Catholic church.

Sorry, but not confused at all. When I say “what the church tells you” that is given that I mean the Magisterium. I assume the HS works mightily to direct the RCC as she does all faiths. I was a RC for many years, I know what she teaches fairly well.

Being a Episcolpalian is being willing to accept the truth and to put that truth into practice every day of our lives. If living the faith of the Episcopal Church that is based upon truth, brings us some small graces from God, and we attain some level of holiness then we are better for it. No one here (Catholic or no) said that “God resides no where but where” they go. I really don’t understand this, especially because you say you were Roman Catholic at one time. I have never heard anyone in the Catholic Church teach that God only resides in the Catholic Church. If anyone seems riled, it seems you are, SpiritMeadow.

Actually, there are quite a few people in the Catholic Church who teach this. They’re called “Feeneyites”. They insist that the phrase “Outside the Church there is no salvation” means that only baptized Roman Catholics may be saved - even though the Church itself does not insist on this strict an interpretation.

And there are several of them active right here at CAF. You must be new here. 😉
