Why or why not? Could he, would he, does he?

How about God the Father? I don’t see the Holy Spirit having a sense of humor but, I wonder about Jesus and God the Father.

Don’t tell me; Every morning when you see yourself in the mirror you are convinced he does.🙂

But, seriously, what do you think?

Animals don’t have a sense of humor, maybe we got that from God…

Sometimes, I wonder, if Jesus or God the Father are enjoying the humor of certain situation etc…

Humor is not evil, and therefore at some level God is the cause of its existence. No joke goes over God’s head, so to speak.

Jesus was like us in all things but sin, so I’m sure he laughed and had a personality. Could Jesus really have been human if he never once laughed or told a funny story?

Oh yes they do…

Meet my dog.

Meet my bird.

Meet my guinea pigs.

Meet my cats.

All of them have senses of humor, like to play, and enjoy a fun interaction, causing laughter and laughing in their own unique ways in turn.

Years ago, an Ursuline sister taught me the following prayer to find something that is lost:

Infant Jesus, lost and found,
Please bring my lost ________ 'round.

This prayer almost never fails to result in the discovery – often in prompt and sometimes dramatic fashion – of the lost object. Once, a secretary of mine who was not Catholic was searching frantically, high and low, for some document that she had misplaced. I told her about the Infant Jesus prayer, and then prayed it aloud for her to find the lost document. The scornful laughter died on her lips when, as soon as the last word of the prayer was uttered, she laid her hand on the lost paper, in a spot where she had probably already searched a dozen times.

Why does this prayer work so well? Not because it is magical; and not because God is a vending machine where you just put in a dollar and get what you want. There have been a very few times where I have not found the lost object; then I can only chalk it up to God’s will, which is that I be separated from something that does me no good, or that somebody else needs more. I attribute the efficacy of this prayer not only to the fact that Jesus likes to be honored in His Infancy, but also to His sense of humor. The Infant Jesus, being little, likes to help us with our little problems; and I strongly suspect that this little prayer, made in faith and confidence, makes Him smile.

Thank you. I really enjoyed watching it. I like that quote about a priest being symbolized as the sky and the sun the Eucharist and as it rises it is the priest raising the Eucharist. Nice.

Yes, well, he demonstrates that to have a sense of humor is to have the ability to see reality as if through a mirror and Jesus certainly used a lot of symbolism. God the Father also, as per his example; it was God that ordered the Israelite to make a snake of bronze. Bishop Sheen demonstrates that they have the capacity by definition. I like the thought that God saved his smile to share with us in heaven. But, I do not completely agree. I think many a faithful have and do enjoy his smile while still on this earth. Eyes that are full of absolute love - smile. But, I would say that he saved his sense of humor to share with us in heaven.

It looks as though it is fine to think that he has a sense of humor. I like that.

One of the books I enjoy most reading of the Bible is Jonah. I find it so endearing. I guess if any book comes close to demonstrating that God has a sense of humor it would be Jonah.

Many people only focus on the brutality and destruction of the Old Testament but, I think that if you read it enough you begin to enjoy the most wonderful love story. People really can’t speak of the God of the OT as if of a monster, they would need to start taking a lot of the stuff out - until finally they will have nothing left.

Does Jesus have a sense of humor? Certainly. Consider first that he is God and remember Jn 1:3.

Platypuses. The ultimate proof of God’s sense of humor. 🙂

That and my new dog: he’s a combination of two of the most intelligent breeds (Blond lab and German shepherd) but he’s an absolute idiot.

or: a cat (declawed) who chases the above dog.

or: an elderly chihuahua whose barks frighten the above dog.

or: us. I mean look at us! We are the height of God’s physical creation and yet we have no natural defenses. Without our clothes, weapons, and technology to stabilize our environment, we’d die out. We are not natural hunters, but instead must be trained - in everything.

I remember in my Southern Baptist days, a preacher from Tennessee once said that the Jews were solemn people - they rarely laughed nor smiled. Because such activity is not recorded or is barely recorded in the Bible, reasoned the preacher, Jesus never laughed and smiled maybe once in his life. That struck me as quite odd.

Jesus nicknamed peter “rocky.” He said, “you are peter (rock) and on this rock I will build my Church.”

Proof that Jesus made puns.

Quite possibly Jesus did tell jokes.

Often in the gospels he starts an explanation with “I tell you solemnly …”. Why would he need that if all he ever did was speak solemnly? Only the evangelists chose not to write down his jokes as we’re not supposed to laught at the gospels.

Also, such likenesses as “a camel passing through the eye of a needle” would seem to bear witbness to a certain sense of humour.

Do you believe Jesus created everything?

If yes I present this.

There are fish to communicate by farting.

I rest my case.

This is bulletproof logic! haha.

As for the topic, I would think Jesus would have a sense of humor simply because he has a human nature. As a matter of fact, to say he DIDN’T have a sense of humor would imply that his human nature was lacking in some way which the early Church fathers strongly condemned. With the exception of sin, Jesus shared in every aspect of our human nature.

The priest at my chaplaincy once mentioned in a homily that we never picture Christ laughing and that its a great image. He’s right.

Off topic for a moment…

A Lab is a Lab. Color has nothing to do with intelligence. My Lab is chocolate and he is as sensible or non as a black or blond.
Also, Labs are determained by the American Kennel Assoc. to be 7th on an intelligence scale from 1 - 10. They are number 1 on the "desiring to please EVERYONE scale though. That’s one reason why they are so easy to train and make terrific family pets.
Now the Shepherd, on the other hand is at the top of the intelligence scale, though it is not nearly as sociable as the Lab.
I’ve owned both.
Sounds like your dog is more Lab than Shepherd but Mutts make awesome pets!!
🙂
Ok, back on topic…

You make very sound points. 🙂

Look at what I found:

Psalm 2

4 **The One enthroned in heaven laughs; ** the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”

Job 8:20-22

20 “Surely God does not reject one who is blameless
or strengthen the hands of evildoers.
21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter
and your lips with shouts of joy.

22 Your enemies will be clothed in shame,
and the tents of the wicked will be no more.”

Psalm 37:13

13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

Psalm 126:2
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

Ezekiel 22:4
Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.

Proverbs 1:26
I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—

Proverbs 14:13
Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief.

Proverbs 31:25
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

Ecclesiastes 2:2
“Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?”

Ecclesiastes 3:4
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Ecclesiastes 7:3
Frustration is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart.

So, laughter can be good or bad and in excess the action of a fool. I see that it is often presented as a form of mockery in the Bible.

I definately know that Jesus and Mary smile, but, I was just wondering if they laugh. I could imagine Mary laughing with the baby Jesus. 🙂

Just enjoying some peaceful moments here…

Peace,

Abba
