Does Jesus or the Bible say that homosexuality is wrong?

Are there specific verses in the Bible that says homosexuality is wrong ?? I think St. Paul mentioned it, Jesus may have said something about it and it is mentioned in the OT. Is this true ? IF yes, what book, chapter and verse.

I’ve had an ongoing debate with my family and a friend about this. They found a verse that said David had a homosexual encounter with a friend, and someone else claims that St. Peter may have been gay.

Thanks.

Romans 1:26-27: “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence [sic] of their error which was meet.”

Homosexual inclination isn’t sinful only sodomy. St. Peter may have been gay(how on earth would we know?) and that would have no bearing on the morality of sodomy.

David was close friends with Jonathan, the son of King Saul. However, there is no evidence whatsoever of any “sexual encounter” between the two. In the writing of the Scriptures, the human authors and the ancient Israelites in general did not participate in any for of hero worship. They were well aware of the flaws and sins of their leaders. If David had “an encounter” with Jonathan, they would have mentioned it, just as the writers discussed David’s extramarital “encounter” with Bathsheba and his subsequent crimes, which included the murder of Bathsheba’s husband. The Jews were not ashamed to record the sins of their heroes. If David had an “encounter” with his good friend Jonathan, the Jews would have recognized it as a sin under the Mosaic Law (Lev 18:22) and noted it explicitly. Not once does the Bible say that David and Jonathan “knew each other” (as the euphemism goes).

What David and Jonathan had was a close male friendship. It’s something that seems foreign to our modern culture, but it is in fact possible for two men to be very close without being gay.

And as for St. Peter, he was married. Mark 1:30-31 tells us that Jesus cured St. Peter’s mother-in-law. Now, how could St. Peter have had a mother in law unless he was married? I am aware of no evidence, in the Bible or otherwise, that even vaguely suggests that Peter was gay, though there would seem to be enough evidence that he was not.

Book of Genesis, chapter 19:
1 And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of the city. And seeing them, he rose up and went to meet them: and worshipped prostrate to the ground,
2 And said: I beseech you, my lords, turn in to the house of your servant, and lodge there: wash your feet, and in the morning you shall go on your way. And they said: No, but we will abide in the street.
3 He pressed them very much to turn in unto him: and when they were come into his house, he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread and they ate:
4 But before they went to bed, the men of the city beset the house both young and old, all the people together.
5 And they called Lot, and said to him: Where are the men that came in to thee at night? bring them out hither that we may know them:
6 Lot went out to them, and shut the door after him, and said:
7 Do not so, I beseech you, my brethren, do not commit this evil.
8 I have two daughters who as yet have not known man: I will bring them out to you, and abuse you them as it shall please you, so that you do no evil to these men, because they are come in under the shadow of my roof…
(bolding mine)

It may be the old testament…but it clearly illustrates that sodomy, not necessarily homosexual tendencies, is wrong. Among other reasons Sodom and Gomorrha were destroyed.

That’s a fairly dubious passage to use. Basically, instead of having men rape his male house guests, he gave up his virgin daughters to these thugs instead.

I think I’ll pass on that one.

I have heard it said that the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah has more to do with a lack of hospitality for guests (in ancient times, hospitality was highly valued).

Sometimes, someoen will respond to the Leviticus reference by saying that the Mosaic Law also refers to eating shellfish as “an abomination.” I would prepare a response for that, if I were you.

But in the eyes of God, which is the greater sin? As for shellfish, you could say that eating shellfish is not a violation of Natural Law, whereas Sodomy is a violation of both God’s Law and Natural Law.

Exactly. There is a major difference between the dietary laws (which are specifically abrogated in the New Testament) and sexual taboos, which are really the biggest part of the Mosaic Law to be upheld by the earliest Christians, like Paul.

Read about God’s punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. The men of Sodom wanted only the young men to have homosexual relations with them. Lot offered his daughters, but the Sodomites refused them. The Lord then warned Lot to escape and erased those cities from the face of this earth. See also what the prophet Jeremiah had to say (Jeremiah 23:14).

Jesus admonished the woman caught in adultery to “go and sin no more” (John 8:1-11). Now, if the unmarried woman sinned by engaging in unmarried relations, how can homosexuals, who cannot be “married”, not do the same? They also are to go and sin no more. Jesus spoke only by reference to Sodom and Gomorrah (Matthew 10:15) about homosexuality. Judaism was still very cognizant of the fates of Sodom and Gomorrah, in large part because of the homosexual activity that occurred there. Both cities are clearly mentioned in scripture and history, and Jesus spoke of the fates of those cities. Apparently, homosexuality was not a problem in Jesus’ days, for the reasons given here.

However, homosexuality was a great problem in Greece, where Saint Paul wrote specifically against it in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Remember that he spoke and wrote by the command of the Lord. Those who choose to ignore all of this do so at great risk. This, of course, applies to all sinners, so homosexuals are not being “picked on”, but notified of their particular sin.

The latest trick of certain sinners is to point out the mere mention of certain sins in the bible as somehow being an endorsement. This is the evil one at work. As to alleged bible verses regarding David, ask to see them. They are either twisting scripture or glossing over the context of the verse. Peter had a mother-in-law, and it wasn’t from a homosexual marriage!

As to what constitutes a “marriage”, go to a machine shop and ask a machinist. You will be told that it is the joining of two opposite, or complementary parts. It describes a perfect physical fit. So, a blue collar machinist already knows what many advanced theologians, and certain activists fail to grasp.
