Does Jesus really call Christians to help EVERYONE?

Yes, but there are many different ways to help people. Jesus commanded us to help people in many ways, from healing the sick, to casting out demons, to preaching the word of God to all you meet, with your life being the greatest message of Jesus’ teachings.

What he wants most is for us to free everyone from their bondages by preaching the word of God. He has called each one of us to spread the gospel, that is the best and greatest way to help everyone. A plate of food is nice, but to free someone from eternal damnation is the highest love you can give. They say to we are to preach the gospel, and when necessary, use words.

Exactomundo.

We are to always help EVERYONE in need…but the Almighty did not specify how we are to do so. That’s why he gave us a will and an intellect in order to figure out the best way to do so.

Sometimes it’s directly, and sometimes it’s indirectly, sometimes it’s through action and sometimes through prayer.

I find it easier to give to charities that request donations of food and clothes etc vs giving to a panhandler that may not even be poor or may use your money for alcohol and/or drugs. I would much rather give a sandwich to a needy person asking for money for food vs handing them money then finding out later they used it in a bad way.

I remember the words from the Gospels where the corporal works of mercy are mentioned:

Clothe the naked
Give food to the hungry
Welcome the stranger/traveler
Give drink to the thirsty
Visit the prisoner
Visit the sick

It should not matter if we are Catholics or another form of Christianity. We are all called to help others in some way. I am not sure what other religions call these works and/or if they have similar precepts to assist those in need.
